| US fencer makes superb results ...yet nobody notices?!
Keeth Smart made it to the final of the Moscow A-grade, yet I haven't anything about it on this website or that of the US fencing association. And that tournament was one of the thoughest ones in the world. Anyone who has fenced the Russians in sabre must agree.
Just seems a bit odd to me that no-one doesn't seem to know / care... |

| I think it's a case of not knowing rather than not caring.
I'm surprised that the USFA site has nothing about it, but they have been having technical problems during the past few weeks.
Nonetheless, you make an excellent point about what's wrong with fencing in the US. We are too internally focussed and should try to be more tuned into the international community.

| Well, I took the last week off from doing anything related to computers, so I haven't gotten around to checking on Int'l tourneys and other headlines.
Thanks for the catch, I'll work on the site some this weekend to catch up.
Happy New Year,

| Well come on, it was only saber. Not like it was fencing or anything.

| Dalton,
Sada Jacobson placed 5th in the meet in Moscow. While not as superb as 1st still not bad.
Where is her mention?

The results from The Senior World Cup in Moscow on the FIE Website show:
Sada Jacobson 5
Emily Jacobson 17
Christine Becker 19
Mariel Zagunis 35
The women's saber team with Emily J., Sada J, Christine B, and Mariel Z finished second for a silver medal.
Do you have results from the Junior World Cup in Budapest Hungary that happened Jan 3?

| Results Nahouw,
You are right I am wrong. How does one get the FIE website to speak English?
I like your results much better anyway, is there a list like that for the rest of the events??

| So wait, did keeth smart WIN the world cup in moscow? The original post said he made it to the final which means he either came in second or first. Then in a later post I read that he won.
Could someone clarify?

| Ben-
Final in this context nearly always means round of 8. In this case he took 2nd (and earned 26 FIE points bringing his total to 108 and moving him to 7th on the FIE list).

The link I posted is directly to the data for Moscow WS -- usually, they have it in HTML format, but I guess they didn't get to this over the holidays..... for FIE rankings and competition results, click here: http://www.fie.ch/classement/ -- select either classement (rankings ) or competitions. Then select gender, weapon and Junior/Senior and click OK. |

| WS I understand there was quite a crowd of girls from the USA competing in Budapest. Sada, Mariel, Emily and Emma did really well, Amelia in top 16, Sarah Parker and Caity Thompson in the 32 and the rest, Providenza, Sherry, Eirmo, Wright, Schuepp and Liebing split in the 64 and lower. Must have been a tough group! |
