Help...

Hey everyone, well I'm new to fencing and had a few questions to ask. I started fencing with some SCA fencers and would like to tranfer over to olympic. I was wondering if there are any clubs/fencers in or around saratoga springs, or around plattsburgh NY. I live in saratoga and go to college in plattsburgh. I was startled to see that the youth NAC's are being held in my home town in less than a week so without a doubt i will be attending those. Since the NAC's are being held in saratoga there must be some clubs somewhere nearby. if anyone could let me know that would be great. If anyone has websites that i could learn tecnique from that would be helpfull.. I was also surprised that even though fencing was an olympic sport there is little information and unity among fencers online. Since i also yo-yo i notice that both scenes suffer many of the same problems. I was also curious if there are an fencing chatrooms anywheere online. Thanks for your help.

This is probably the most prominent online fencing chattish sort of place. There aren't really any regularly visited fencing chat rooms. HEre is the best place for asking questions/making friends int he fencing world. I suggest you stay here, it's a lot of fun (and unity )

For club information go to
http://www.usfencing.org
and click on "info for members" then click "clubs and divisions" then click on new york. You want clubs in Hudson-Berkshire division
http://www.hudsonberkshire.com
There are a few clubs in the Albany area.
The other thing that might interest you is checking out Green Mountain Division (click vermont instead of NY).
http://www.vtfencing.org
There's fencing in Middlebury, Burlington, and Charlotte which aren't too far from Plattsburg. Mmmm, I just noticed that that's not too far as the crow flies, I don't see an easy way of crossing Lake Champlain.
I'd say that your best bet would probably be Salle Dom Szabli, a sabre-only club in the Clifton Park Mall in Clifton Park, NY. According to Mapquest that's about 26 minutes from Saratoga Springs. If you go tell Mitch that Brad Baker sent you.

Sabresque is right. This place is more fun and....(leans close to monitor and whispers conspiratorily) we won't make (much) fun of that....yo-yo problem!

Re: Plattsburgh -
Nope. Not at least that I could find when I was teaching there last year. About the closest I came to finding any place was Montreal, which would be a shorter drive than Saratoga Springs.

cheers,
Chris
