Array Fencing Application for Palm Pre Does anyone know where to find or make one? Don't take life so seriously... You'll never live through it. -

Array First, you need to see some Palm Pre's... -
What kind of application? You want a referee assistant type, a basic small tournament FencingTime, an indexed & keyed Rulebook, or what?
For the first, I am aware of ones for the iPhone/iTouch and Android based units. (Question: Anyone having seen any of these willing to venture an opinion?)
I'm not aware of any applications to run small tournaments on smartphone/iPnones/Android/etc.
It would be very, very nice if the rulebook, athlete handbook, and other supporting documents, etc. were available in this form.

Array If you are looking for a Referee Assistant, try Scorepad from Eigertek. It's free, and was written for the Palm OS.

Array I'm not sure if it will work on the new WebOS, but the VERY good PalmFencer written by Jon Dal is great as a standalone program.. Now if he would only integrate this with Fencing Time it would be phenominal!
I know that it does ocacsionally cause my Palm Centro to reset itself, and I need to delete one of the DB files (PFSettings) from my device to get it to work again.
Write to Jon here: jdal@yahoo.com
He had in the past only wanted $15.00 per license, but that was when he was selling it through Handago. Unfortunately Handago has changed their policies and he is no longer seling through that site. If you are looking just to try it out, I can send you a copy of the unregistered program that will allow you to enter in 5 person pools and see how it works. Array I would have to agree with PalmFencer. It is indeed a very good application for the handheld. There was an update that Jon Daley (not Dal) wrote to accommodate the multi-button Treo and future handhelds from Palm. Previously, his application was written for the Handspring line of handheld which had only an up and down button. With the Treo line and future devices that had a keyboard and such, he had to make adjustments to deal with the 5-button center.
Works well. My Treo no longer works (as a cell phone, at least), but can still be used as a scorekeeping device. -

Array I have acquired three hand-me-down Treo 650's that I regularly loan to my club for use during tournaments. When I can convince people to try them they are regularly impressed and pleased with the product.
Now I only need to figure out how to keep the batteries from dying over a 10 hour period so that things don't die in the middle of a DE bout at the end of the day! "Rub her feet!" - Lazarus Long, Time enough for Love, Robert A. Heinlein "Never moon a werewolf."

I've used the referee's assistant for the iPhone and it works well. It's very similar to the Eigertek one.
The PalmOS apps are not available for WebOS unless they have been rewritten.
If you go to the Palm web-site, you can download an SDK for the Pre and start building apps. One test is worth a thousand opinions.
