11th Annual Amarillo Open Fencing Tournament

We are now in the preliminary stages of planning for the 11th Annual Amarillo Open Fencing Tournament. Last year's tournament was held in October and was extremely successful. We had fencers from the US Air Force Academy, Kansas, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas. Last year's results may be found at http://askfred.net/Results/results.p...nament_id=8868.

We are currently looking at dates in October 2010. However, we are working with the neighboring divisions and the US Air Force Academy on the scheduling so that we will make sure that we minimize conflicts. Please keep us up to date on your tournament schedule. Send the dates of your fall events to me at chuck@acfencers.com or Bary Nusz, Rocky Mountain Section Secretary, at barynusz@gmail.com.

If we can finalize the date early enough, we should be able to increase the number of strips available. We simply need to reserve the entire facility (Carter Fitness Center at Amarillo College) instead of just three-fourths. The earlier we can pin down the date, the more likely that will happen.

I look forward to seeing everyone there.

The confirmed date for the 11th Annual Amarillo Open is October 2 - 3, 2010.

Just a few notes about our plans: We anticipate an event even larger than last year. We will have 12 grounded strips (and maybe 14 or 15). Swordmasters will be there again with their fencing store and handling armory work. Gerrie Baumgart has agreed (health permitting) to serve as our Head Referee and/or Bout Committee Chair. We will be hiring top quality referees for the tournament. Our venue is the same as last year except we have the entire building (the equivalent of 4 basketball courts). We have events for youth fencers, junior fencers and senior fencers. Prizes will be given to all gold medalists. We hope to give katanas again to the senior gold medalists. We have coordinated our dates with the US Air Force Academy in order to guarantee their ability to attend our tournament.

This is just a taste of what we have planned. We will post again as soon as details become available.
