| Rewiring a weapon Gentlemen: I rewired my first epee and am working on my second one. I also need to rewire a foil.
Question: how do you remove the barrel correctly? I finally got the barrell off the tip of my epee, and put the new thing in, then glued down the wire and then threaded through the bell and wired the do-hickey connector.
Suggestion: The socket for the body cord thingy: why don't they reverse the position of where the nuts are located? It would be a heck of a lot easier to thread.
Next Question: The tip doesn't move smoothly now, what should I do? |

| If you have a groove at the bottom (closest to the blade) of the barrel, use a 6mm open-end wrench for Epee and 5mm for Foil. But always tighten at the bottom end.
There are several reasons and I am not giving every single one for the problem of the tip. If you tightened or loosened at the top, you may have deformed the barrel or even the groove for the tip screw. With some wires there are spacers, was the old one taken out. The screws may have been put in at an angle and is scraping the sides. You may have glued to close to the barrel and it wicked up. With something like Cementit, stay at least ¼” from the barrel and super glue at least ½”. There are other possibilities also.
I am not sure what you mean by where the nuts are on the connectors.

| Misplaced his nuts? Sounds like a personal problem!
Magma, whewre are you located? If you're in the Los Angeles area, let me know and I'll be happy to show you how to screw up -- er -- wire a blade in person.
It's also possible I may be selling gear near you, if you're in the SoCal area. |

| I'm guessing Magma is the new nom de net for another previous poster.
In any case, as for the positions of the nuts on the socket, they're "reversed" if you're left-handed, versus a right-handed person. Also, some brands have them reversed. It's no big deal since they're reversible in terms of how you stick the plug into the socket.
Fixing non-smooth tips depends on whether it's foil or epee. For foil, you can try a small file to file down the inside of the barrel. In epee, it's not common for the barrel to be so smacked as to make a dent inside, so it's probably some other reason.
A mandrel can also work to smooth out the inside of a barrel.

| I'm beginning to wonder if said poster is a Turing test.

| Thank you once again to dhc and edew for pointing out the error of my ways, and assisting me with my weapons check. now, what's up with the purple fencer? [he lost a few bouts I think]
now, back to Mr and Mrs Dotcom, but, okay, i'll tell you, we're divorced. It was a very stormy relationship, and finally, I filed and went my way. But it was all for the best, because now, he is Free FREE FRRREEEE!!!!!! and can find the female of the pick of the litter. I actually felt from the start, that he should have married someone small, with long black curly hair and who wears frothy clothing. But he didn't give me a chance to matchmake. There was one that came close to the sort of person I thought he should marry, but she was snotty to me, and I feel it's important for wives to be gracious to everyone who is potentially a friend of the family, so I nixed her out. I still feel he has a chance. Some men shouldn't marry until they're 40, or 45. |

| you're all nuts, but that's okay. I really couldn't find a way to take it personal though, how is everyone. after the holidays i'll test my newly rewired epee.
i'm reading the usfa rules, and have some revisions in mind:
to wit:
fencers responsibilities: t15: blah blah blah......etc. it's fine, but then there should be a paragraph following that says:
organizers responsibilities t15b:
the organizers are solely responsible for ensuring that fencing strips, lights, boxes, testers, reels and other jointly used devices are in compliance with usfa regulation.
[oh noooooo!!!1 sorry] |
