Room in fencing shoes Just looking at getting a new pair of fencing shoes as the shoes I use currently are too shallow for my new insoles (my left heel lifts out of my shoe when I move). I want to get shoes rather than boots/booties and was wondering which ones have a deep back (with any insole they might have removed).
I was looking at Hi-Tec Scimitars and wanted to be sure before I made the investment...i was also looking at adidas en guards as a cheapo option!
So, if you could get out your measuring tapes, I'd appreciate it! "Riposte, Remise, Redouble" -

Array You'll probably be better off with volleyball/raquetball/squash shoes. They generally have removable insoles and more room. -
I currently use squash shoes which have bugger all room in them - it's also pretty hard to get court shoes of any kind here and ordering online is risky if they aren't what you want/needed "Riposte, Remise, Redouble" -

Array If you are where zappos.com ships, they take back anything that doesn't fit, with no arguments, and they offer hundreds of varieties of court shoes. I'm a fan, due to their service and selection. -
Sadly they don;t seem to ship to Ireland "Riposte, Remise, Redouble" -

Array Not really sure what you want measured here, or how big this insole of yours is going to be.
I will say that I used an orthotic for a few years (which looks somewhat like this, but not quite), provided by my podiatrist, which didn't work too well in ANY of my shoes EXCEPT my Hi-Tec Blades. All of my other shoes, my heel would rise up and slip out as I moved, but everything stayed put in the Blades. There was so much room in them, I wore the inserts long past when I should have taken them out (i.e., the original problem had cleared up). When I switched to Scimitars this Christmas, I didn't put in the orthotics.
I would check for how much room is in my Scimitars when I slip in the orthotic, but the right shoe is currently sitting in a cobbler's place being stretched to accommodate a bunion*. I can let you know in about a week, though!
*which I complained about in another thread, and sure enough, that's what it was, so I saw a podiatrist and am following her advice and getting my shoes stretched before committing to surgery, but I digress. grump grump grump -

Array The Leon Paul Shoes are pretty roomy and the Scimitars at least have removable insoles. -

Array My orthotics fit nicely in my Stabils, but I also was a girl in guy's Stabils.
What? The colors were MUCH more offensive in Mens colors than womens. : D -

Array I like the fit of my scimitars but the soles do not last long. Mine showed signs of shredding at one spot after only 2-3 months and I only fenced on a cheese grater strip for 5 or 6 bouts. The rest of the time I fenced on wooden floors.

Array Do you wear them off the strip? Mine seem to be holding up quite well. Other than the laces. Those metal eyelets are really hard on laces. -
From my point of view, adidas are the best! -
So... your shoe is too big for your foot, and your insoles are too big for your shoes, so you want to get bigger shoes? Is this for clown fencing? It's actually really easy to cut down insoles. Similar Threads -
