| I don't know if they have ever posted who is fencing as it never was an issue for me, but you could contact Evan Raines. For e-mail you can go through the web site http://www.duelinthedesert.com/contact.htm or his phone number from the web site is (702) 242-0765 (daytime); (702) 898-0410 (evenings).

| I find fencers who attend competitions only contingent on who else will attend to be rather noxious. I'd rather they don't come.
Here's a tournament, a fairly good one with years and years of good reviews and comments, and someone has to ask who else will attend. Good grief. Go or don't. Don't wait for others to step up to the plate first...

| It is nice, however, to know that your registration was not swallowed en route by the USPS, and to know that there will be a decent field in general. Nothing worse in my book than going to the trouble and expense of travelling to a distant tournament only to find out that gee, our announced schedule was in error, we held your event YESTERDAY ( Haacke und Schlasche some years ago ), or that only six other people showed up ( Sectionals about one out of every two years ).
Fortunately, DITD has made itself enough of a reputation that these concerns are moot in its case. Though I still don't trust the Post Office not to lose my entry, especially at this time of year...
In other words, a confirmed-entry list is a nice extra. |

| If somebody is considering going to go to all the time and expense to travel to a competition, I think they have every right to make their mind up using every piece of information possible. I would imagine the US is far more expensive in terms of travel to competitions than the UK, but even here, if I were going to travel, I would want to make sure the competition was going to be of a sufficiently high level to make it worth my while.
I can fence at a low level locally anytime. In my experience, most fencers who travel do so to achieve a higher level of competition to improve their skills. What's wrong with making a judgement on which of the many competitions out there one chooses to attend? |

| Because with a thousand dollars on the line, I might like to not have too high a competition. Gettit?
As for presumptions. I made that statement in the general case. It may pertain to you, or not. And generally, those I've found to make such requests about who's going or not are generally the second-tier fencers. The top levels will go or not go depending on other circumstances (money, time). It's the second- or third-level fencers who ***** and moan that there's not enough good fencers blah, blah. And if there are any good fencers, those second- and third-level fencers are promptly dispatched by the good fencers. I guess it's their excuse for not doing better.

It's refreshing to find someone who is unapologetically insulting to people he doesn't know.
However, I fear I suffer from the same problem. In my case, however, "Those I've found to make such requests about who's going or not are generally" ... just curious about who's going or not. They might be looking for familiar names or a particular arch-nemesis, or being unable to attend they merely want to daydream.
... Of course, they're probably second-tier daydreamers. Poor sods. |
