Array Tungsten It's more-or-less pure, but sintered, so the density is slightly less than the pure element: about 18.5g/cc. - slightly less than solid gold at 19.3g/cc. -

=P That reminds me Mr Nolano, If you're using thoriated tungsten electrodes, please wear a dust mask when sharpening or at least make sure your grinder has adequate ventilation that you're not inhaling any of that dust. I remember when I were a lad in welding school they never bothered to mention that thorium in electrodes is freakin' radioactive. You don't get a ton of radiation from sharpening a thoriated tungsten electrode, but you get enough over time to begin to care about such things. Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem

Array Just to close out this thread, the TungstenFencing Sintered Tungsten Pommel came in at 200 grams.
It is a more effective counterweight than a 200g brass pommel would be, because 85% of the weight is in the aft 3/4". It makes a heavy épeé blade feel like a foil, and allows you to hold a couple of inches back from the guard while retaining point control.
And, according to the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet), the alloy is 97% Tungsten, 2.1% Nickel, and .9% Iron. No Thorium or other toxics. -

Array What a heavy topic ... I want one of the pistol grip ones. -
Any plans for a sabre model? I won't promise that I'd buy it, but it would be interesting to see how it would work. -

Array The Orthopedic Balance Weight - One, the OBWone, is due in about two weeks, if my manufacturer is to be believed.
As to a sabre model, I had planned to experiment with the tungsten part from the french-grip version, to see if it would be useful for sabre, but I got carried away when assembling them, and used all the parts for the french Sintered Tungsten Pommels. Maybe next batch. -

Array No, let's definitely go for some Carbon Fibre pommels. That should work, right?
