| San Diego NAC schedule? Does anyone out there know what day Div I ME would be in San Diego? I became eligible to fence in it this past weekend... and am considering going... but I need to look at things like airfaire and the like. I don't know what day I would need to be out there. Unfortunately, National's site is down, and google's cache of the schedule page is from before they updated it Thanks for any help.

| The DivI ME event is on Saturday.
Does anyone know when is the deadline for registration? It seems like the USFA's fax machine is always busy and I am trying to send the fax from France...

| thanks for the info
info for you
the registration deadline is tomorrow (12/17) if you are in france you'll probably be best suited to send at some odd american time... 4 am or some crazyness. I wish they'd just bite the bullett and set up online registration... if metro division can do it... i don't understand why national can't.

| Does anyone have the NAC registration form? The usfa site is down, and I can't get the form off the site.
That's probably what I get for waiting last minute, but I'm still not even sure if I'm going... |

Here's a copy for those who might need one right away: www.eskimo.com/~edew/baycup/PDFs/NACEntry.pdf
Hope that helps.

| It's also available (the entry form) on the canadian fencing federation website: http://www.fencing.ca
Now, I tried calling in from all times I could, and the damn fax keep ringing busy... And I did call in a 4am Colorado time... I think they either turned the fax down or there is going to be a lot of people from Europe attending this tournament %-/

| The tournament is being sponsored by the San Diego International Sports Council, not the local division there, so in answer, I really don't know much... aside from the fact that the SD local division is trying to offer as much assistance as possible.
Since I have no idea where you are coming from, I will try to be as helpful as possible from memory.
The event is to be held in Del Mar, that is about 40-45 minuites from SAN, 50-60 min from John Wayne and 2 hr from LAX.
If you plan to arrive LAX, Orange or SAN, your best bet for a cheap version of a taxi, with enough cargo space for two bags of fencing gear plus guests would most likely be Cloud 9 Shuttle ( www.cloud9shuttle.com) from San Diego, LA or Orange County. Otherwise, any airport taxi will cost about the same price to get to the venue. (Really Expensive) You are much better off renting a car/van for the weekend, unless you are planning on staying at the venue.
The San Diego Division's website is www.sandiegofencing.com and you should be able to get some contact names for tournament there. I do know that Cabrillo will be doing some training and setup down there in the next two weeks and Spartak will be assisting as well. PM me for contact names if you can't find them.
DJ- Coming from MA, you would need to be out there two days before your scheduled event. If your event is on Saturday, you should plan on being in town on Thursday Night, Friday Morning at the VERY latest. Your body will need some time to get adjusted to the jetlag, and that could take the full day on Thursday and Friday to prepare for your event on Saturday. (Ain't nothing like spending a small fortune to go to an event, and fence poorly because you are jetlagged.) Remember, the earlier you come the better because bodies need time adjustments for performance.
Good Luck!

| I usually don't have problems with jet lag when I come from the East Coast to the West. It's the return trip that gets me off kilter. I try as much as possible to stay on East Coast time, even if it means waking up at 4:30 in the morning.
Getting there two days before the event just isn't an option for me (job), so perhaps I just deal well with jet lag because I have to.

Good Luck! | East to west jetlag is no big deal. The worst thing might be no nightlife activity. If you have an 8:00AM check-in close time, that's 11:00AM for you easterners. That's hardly jetlag.
West to east is the real pisser. For example, going to Columbus OH from California makes the 8:00AM check-in close feel like 5:00AM. THAT'S a PITA. Several years ago, there was that NAC in Cleveland. I got in the night before, arriving at around 11:30PM local time. That was 8:30PM body time, and I couldn't get to sleep until late. Then, we had 7:00AM check-in close or some other repugnant time. That's 4:00AM for me. Basically, I slept-walked to the venue and slept-walked to weapons check and slept-walked through my six bouts. I won maybe one or two, and certainly should be able to win five of six. But I was so slow and sleepy, I couldn't make a parry.
I managed to sneak into the DEs, won my first, then lost a tight one as I pulled back from a 11-3 deficit to lose 15-12 (I tied the score up at 12, took a breather and immediately lost the last three points. I should have kept focussed and pushed through the last three points). Wes Glon was somewhat impressed.

What is seriously up with the USFA site? It's been down for DAYS! | Del Mar Fairgrounds. I believe the address is 15575 Jimmy Durante Blvd. The host hotel is at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd. Forgot the host hotel's name. Maybe go to Travelweb.com (if they're still around) and do a search for hotels in Del Mar with that address. Both are at Del Mar, which is north of San Diego (city, proper). Del Mar is the fancy-schmancy part of that region. It's where all the rich folks live and where they play rich folks golf.

| There are several hotels in the area, but the major ones close to the venue are most likely booked by now. The one closest to the venue would be a timeshare operation called winner's circle. If you are a timeshare owner, that may be your best bet. (call the hotel anyway, this is off season for them) If you can't find anything close to the venue, you may want to start checking out Solana Beach (about 10 Min from there) Escondido (25 Min to Venue), Torry Pines (20 min to Venue) or La Jolla (20 Min to Venue). If you are interested in a cheap hotel, Mira Mesa (a suburb) is fairly close at 25-30 min. Assuming of course that you are renting a car.
Good luck!

It's a pretty large complex, what with the racetrack and all ("Where the turf meets the surf"). Last time I was there was when I had hair (looooooong time back!).
I'm not going to try for my director's rating this year...too out of practice to rick screwing people more than I did last year at Palm Springs, but I DO plan on cruising the vendor booths and seeing if I can strike some deals for my own biz...ya think Saul Mendoza's gonna enjoy not paying big bucks for transportation and lodging this time? Maybe I can finally meet Vicki! |

| Certainly Saul will benefit from having an NAC in his backyard. That's always the case for wherever the NAC is held.
As for meeting Vickie, she's been to many tournaments. Maybe there's other reasons why you're not meeting her
