JO's reservations

Hi,
Here's some info for moms, dads, and coaches taking a bunch of kids to JO's - the usfa rate for the JO official hotel, which I understand it is a very nice resort, is $109. When a friend called to reserve a room, the hotel told her it would be another $15 for double occupancy. Through travelocity it is just $115 for double occupancy. So, shop around , it might even be cheaper somewhere else.
Now I've got another concern - I've got a frequent flyer ticket I could use on United - Should i take the chance that booking it in Dec. it will still be there in Feb?

Don't do it! Every time I've had anything going with a bankrupt company I ended up wasting my time and kissing my money goodbye.

I'd do it. The frequent flyer miles are not only not money, they're much more likely to disappear than the airline, and therefore if you purchase a ticket with them you've at least wrested some value out of your association with the airline. The worst thing that could happen is for the airline to cease operations completely between now and then. In which case yes, you'd have to buy another ticket, but I suspect you'd have plenty of notice and be scanning the various travel sites for good deals on another company in the meantime.

If I knew when the heck my Veteran WS event at Arlington was, I'd buy my tickets now with my United Mileage Plus miles. I'm more worried about the frequent flyer program going belly-up than the airline.

I'm with Peach, go for it. Big companies these days seldom go completely out of business, they just go into bankruptcy, "reorganize", shed or renegotiate their debts and keep operating as before. When they do fold completely, like Pan Am, it takes then awhile.

They might cancel or alter the FF program, but if you already have the ticket you ought to be safe.

Hotels

The Broadmoor is a really pricey hotel. It is old and elegant. (even is supposed to have a ghost or two.)

BTW Colorado Springs is just a gorgeous place and it has some serious altitude, about 6,000 feet. There is no humidity there either so keeping your fencers hydrated is a concern.

It should be an interesting meet.
I shopped around and found a hotel within two miles of the venue for 50 bucks a night! There are many around there.
If your fencing dollar has to stretch, check hotel rates on more than one website I found an 18 dollar difference for the same hotel and same type room.
