    Hi!

    About the hockey spanking:

    Works both ways.

In the most recent womenīs floorball World Championships, the USA scored 5 losses in 5 games for a combined score of 12-72, including a 1-28 thrashing at the hands of Sweden. The Swedes were celebrating every single one of those goals, IIRC. Considering that the average result of two reasonably evenly matched teams is 5-5 or 6-6, that would compare to a basketball result of 13-364.

Lets take that again. A basketball clobbering of Threehundred and sixtyfour to thirteen. I gave actually done the extrapolation math on that one, those are not numbers pulled out of thin air.

The previous WC went considerably better for the stars&stripes - they were still clobbered by all teams in the groups, but they managed to eke out a consolation win against Singapore. Just barely.

There have been no cross-gender games in floorball, but if would have I think that the Swedish womenīs team would have a even chance against the USA menīs team.

If you would combine the worst player on every position among the Swedish national series players, they would still beat team USA for same-gender matches.

Another run-up with the USA as the victim: in the 2002 PanAmerican Handball Championships, Greenland (yes, Greenland) beat USA to the score of 27-7.

    Have a nice time!

That hockey game between U.S.A. and Canada was a thing of beauty last night. Ryan Miller was amazing in net, and Rafalski's performance was top notch. Everyone thought this tournament was Canada's to lose, but the Americans have shown they are serious contenders for the gold medal. I would love to see a rematch between these two teams.
Can't you, just this once, f*** off?

I agree. There's a lot of friendly competition between the USA & Canada to begin with, which made for a very exciting game. Did your TV stations show the spectators filing in? It was an amazing sight to see... red and white as far as the eye can see. Part of the fun hosting the Olympics has been watching the Canadians cheer their athletes. For those of you who live close by... you should really consider coming down for the party. TONS of free concerts, shows etc... it's a good party.

    Perhaps this might explain it...

The final game for women's hockey will begin in 30 minutes. Let us bow our heads...

Our Father, who art in GM Place, hockey be thy name, thy will be done, GOLD to be WON on ICE as well as IN THE STANDS. Give us this day, our hockey sticks and forgive us our penalties, as we forgive those who crosscheck against us. Lead us not into elimination but deliver us to victory, in the name of the fans, CANADA and the HOLY PUCK. AMEN!!

I'll only be insufferable if the men win as well.

Speaking of socialists.... one of the volunteer drivers had the Olympic village dentist in his car. Over 470 procedures. I'm thinking "how odd, I didn't think teeth got damaged so much in sport". No... apparently many of these athletes get their dental work done every 4 years. Root canals, fillings etc...

I told my fencers that I wasn't too worried about paying the bill. However, they should be as they will be entering the workforce soon, and paying, and paying and paying. So enjoy as much of the party as they can, it'll make those big pay cheque deductions easier to handle if you have some good memories.

    WE DID IT!

Sid the kid finally popped one in (way to make Nova Scotia proud)! Way to go Canada. Gold for both men & women (the only time ANY host country got men's ice hockey gold BTW). That brought us to 14 gold medals... more gold than ANY COUNTRY ever in the winter Olympics. This place is going nuts!!!

It's kinda of sweet how it worked out. Finland took bronze in both men's & women's hockey. The USA silver in both, and Canada gold in both. Hockey... it's STILL our game.

I had to laugh when someone said tonight "Isn't it funny how it didn't really matter how many gold medals we won, it only matter that we won gold in hockey".

Legendary Canadian rocker Neil Young and Hollywood stars William Shatner and Michael J. Fox were among the performers in a show that featured giant beavers, moose and Mounties as the audience donned antlers.

Kinda true, tho...like one of the LA colleges (I forget if it's USC or UCLA...I think it's USC) that could lose every game except for 2....beating the cross-town rival and Notre Dame.....win those 2 and the alum dollars flow like water!

    Oh, come on! Be fair!

It is a remarkable achievement for a small, underpopulated and impoverished country where it hardly ever snows and where there is never any ice or mountains to practice on.

And to cap it all with two gold medals in a sport that is taken seriously in almost 5 other countries is glorious!
