    Chips

Anyone know of a site that does small batch orders of IC's? I'm building some boxes and stuff and can't find everything I need at radioshack.

Have you tried Digikey or Allied electronics?

    Futurlec.

    It's awesome.

No minimum order. Decent inventory. $4 and up shipping. It comes from Thailand or Austrailia, so it takes a couple of weeks.

If that won't work, use Digikey or Mouser. Incredible inventory, but minimum orders and/or higher shipping costs. Digikey typically ships same day.

If Digikey or Mouser don't have it, check Newark or Allied.

I couldn't figure out how to actually order anything from Digikey, will look at some of the other websites. Found a site called greatplainselectronics, simple interface and small selection but has most of what I want.

    Thanks, gonna try mouser.

    Huh?

Digikey is pretty easy to use.

Ask any hardware guy: Digikey is THE place to get prototype parts.

For hobbyists, it's shipping costs are high for small orders.

I find its website very easy to use: type a keyword, typically you get a choice on categories. Pick one. Then because their inventory is huge, you often get a few hundred hits and a filter. Select a couple of filter items to get a smaller list. One that is really good is the "in stock" one. Click the link to the item, and then there is an order button.

    Cart button on top left.

Mouser seemed to have a way better search interface, I didn't know exactly what I wanted just in general so the filter format from mouser was awesome.

Digikey would have probably worked if I knew the parts number I needed.

Mouser is okay. I order from them a couple times a year, but I usually go to them if Digikey doesn't have what I want.

These days, I use Futurlec if I can wait, and Digikey if I can't.
