Claremont Colleges Fencing Club Dear All,
I am in the process of starting a 5-College Fencing Club and require much help and guidance. Thank You in advance for reading
1) Budget. As a student-coach and team captain in High School I am very familiar with the disproportionate amount of money needed for funding as opposed to say, tennis. The sheer cost of equipment, electrical or not, is daunting in itself. If anyone has a balance sheet/ budgeting sample of a college club or similar, please let me know. My athletic director needs a rough estimate of the types of cost associated.
2) Coach. Claremont is located 35 miles east of Los Angeles, practically in LA county. If anyone knows of any coaches that would be willing to commute and coach our club, that would be great. Or if anyone knows of anyone that can lend a hand, please let me know. Our current Fencing Coach for the fencing classes here are run by George Clovis. Though scheduling wise, we may require additional coaches.
3) IFCSC. is the Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Souther California. If anyone knows of any information that would allow my club to join or any membership information at all, it would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Cody -

Regards,
Cody Cody....PM me your email address and I'll work up something for you price wise.
Coaching...dunno...you might ask George himself...I think the closest salle to you is Fortune Fencing in Alta Dena.
For the collegiate league, contact Greg Schiller sabeur@aol.com...he's the coach at UCLA and one the EC of the league. Their season finishes later this month...so you're looking at next season.
Did you ever get your gear out from back east? -
Thanks alot Sam! I'll contact Fortune Fencing and Coach Schiller. My equipment got here fine!

1. Budget. You could try and contact some of the other collegiate club programs in the area and ask for their budgets. UCI, USC, and UCSB all operate on shoe-string budgets (or at least, used to about 5 years ago).
2. George Clovis is all you need. =) That being said, Fullerton might also be somewhere to look for fencing coaches - there's a bunch of good people down that direction.
3. The IFCSC has a collegiate open in the fall every year - that's a good non-threatening place to introduce new people to the fun of competing. Otherwise, as Sam said, talk to Greg. -

Wow, is it end of the season already? That means NCAAs are coming up...
Cody, you might consider putting a notice in the Claremont Alumni newsletter/e-mail, and perhaps even the local newspaper, and see who is responds - often you get quite a robust response. (donations if not an actual coach)

Dang! this is about 38 years too late for me! ( i'll save you the math, I graduated from Scripps in '74) Back then the only fencing was at Pomona, and Dr. Zold was the coach. Alas, while I could and did take his class, with only one other fencer at Scripps at the time, there were not enough of us so we could not compete ( and we couldn't fence for Pomona). Good Luck!
P.S. so if I earmark my annual alum donation not only for the new Scripps athletic building but for fencing equipment, will it help?

Local Club to be Opened in Claremont/Upland Area Hi Cody - I am a parent to a local foil fencer that fences on the NAC Circuit. I am privy to tell you that there will soon be a Fencing Club open in the Claremont area. The coach will be a French trained Master of Arms and we look forward to having individuals like you involved. We especially look forward to having experienced fencers like yourself to Open Fence.

Hopefully not Purple and white, as those are the C5CF (Claremont 5 College Fencing) colors.
When's the grand opening?
Regards, -
CFC - Team Colors Mostly likely Midnight Blue and Orange. Similar Threads -
