Array Once thing I've noticed in fencing lefties in sabre (we have two of 'em at my club that I regularly spar with) is that oftentimes they don't expect lowline attacks under their sword arm, or to their left flank.
Righties will attack a lefty to the lefty's outside line most of the time, so you feint a little to the right shoulder and get them to bite on a parry, then when they lift the sword arm exposing that left flank that they rarely have to defend, you whip around with a disengage and thwap 'em on the left flank right above the lowest hip seam of the lame.
Problem is, that only works about twice, maybe three times before they get wise to it, and by then they're usually pretty torqued off at you. -

For that feint-disengage you describe, tho, I would aim a little higher than the waist in case you undershoot and hit below the lame line...elbow height, perhaps...if your reach is enough and you're in position, the only way you'll miss target is if you don't cut through your target and end up cutting short. -

Array I don't think it's that different really-- the target area is still the same just flipped around some. . . but then, coming from a leftie. . . I guess I wouldn't really know. The reason hitting below the belt is not counted in sabre is that it could cause brain damage. . . does that mean epeeists don't think at all? -
I dunno about saber but in foil.. a leftys parry 4 followed by a riposte to flank is deadly. Done right defense is tough.... unless they stand more chest forward.
For me I like my parry 4 with a cutover to flank/back.. but im right handed.
Sorry for threadjack.

Array I tend to find that cirlce 6 and 8 are useful for me. Though more often I go on the offensive, picking the leading wrist, and then running away.
In Epee it works!
In Sabre it..... sort of works, the trouble is I don't have RoW when I do that counter attack, so I /have/ to lock them out.
In defense though, my 4 has improved enough for me to use it, but I almost never see a point in moving my hand across my body when their weapon is on my weapon hand side anyway. Just remember folks, children in the backseat cause accidents, and accidents in the backseat cause children. Similar Threads -
