| Wires for screwless epee Guys;
I'm doing a massive reqwiring project for Masque de Fer (Chaminade) amounting to about 30 weapons. One of rhe epees is the current screwless type (don't know the manufacturer). I don't remember if it takes a standard French or German wjirfe or if the wire's specific to that tip.
I should point out that I have not had the opportunity to tape the point itself apart to examine it's workings.
The actual point that gets depressed if a thin deal, with a longish post and a rather thick plastic insulator at the top of the barrel.
If i can't fix this one, there are about a dozen or so others, but I'd sorta like to do this job right.
Thanks |

| It will not work with a French or German wire. I'm not very familiar with the newest one that has been going around, so I can not be sure if it is Italian, Russian, new or something else.
The new ones may work with the French, but I don't know. Another posibllity, would be to take out the old wire and create a new one. That might also help in determining the brand.
Sorry, I couldn't be more help.

| There are two screwless epee points that I know of on the market currently, the Schermasport and the Estoc.
You can find a details and a picture of the Schermasport point at Negrini. The wire is most definitely not the same as German or French points-- it has a concentric arrangement of the contacts (on in the middle, the other in a ring around it) and uses the pressure spring as part of the circuit. American Fencers' Supply carries them.
The Estoc point has a standard contact spring, and so might be useable with normal French wires. Swordmasters, IIRC, sells them.

| To you three amateur armourers the tip describe is the Estoc and it's a piece of junk but it can us either the French or German
wire. Now the Schermasport takes a special wire and is a very soild tip. The wire alone for it is 10.00 dollars, It took me and Matt Potter of American Fencer on our first one 30 to 45 minutes to get it set right for there is no spring
'
Now on the Estoc tip when adjusting the contact spring once it adjust us a touch of super glue to hold it in place. It wont stay adjust for more then three bouts with out it.
Sam that shouldn't take you more then a day at home.

| Sam I forgot to mention that I have found that the German wire works better than the French due to the cup on the german wire,

| Tim,
Have you tried the PBT (Geramn style) wires with the Estoc tip? I could not make that combination work.
I ended up using an Allstar wire.

| The secert to using PBT wires with the Estoc is to make sure that the two contacts are even when you set the cup. If one is a tad higher it wouldn't work right. Make sure that the contact springs is
on stright.
