Schoolcraft C & Under, Dec. 7, 2002

This was our Division email newsletter, and since it contained news about one of our own, I wanted to post it:

Hello Friends:

This past weekend, Schoolcraft Fencing Club hosted a three weapon C & Under. The club is to be congratulated for hosting a well run and successful tournament. Thanks to everyone who pitched in ( this was the first exposure to running an event for many of you) and did so well.

As to the results; let's start with the biggest win of all: In the Men's Foil event with 16 entrants, Schoolcraft's own Mike Harm earned his E-02 by coming in tied for third. Zack Williams from Grand Rapids Advanced Fencing Academy was in 1st Place, with Graig Budzynski from WMFA second and Joe Williams from Grand Rapids Advanced Fencing Academy tied for third.

In the Women's Foil with eleven entrants, Rada Sarkisov from Grand Rapids Advanced Fencing Academy dominated with a first place win with AADS Wendy Bolakowski taking home the silver and UofM's Amanda Carvell and RFC's Robbie Schultz tied for bronze. This was an event that served to showcase the increasing fencing prowess of not only Rada (who was a sight to see) but several Michigan Division women foilists like Tania Bargenquast from GLSC (#6), Anne Watson from Cyrano's Place(#5) and Becky Wrobleski from Schoolcraft(#7) whose strong performances earned personal best finishes.

Women's Epee with four entrants saw Anne Watson form Cyrano's Place take the Gold followed by UofM's Rebecca Stotzen in Silver and Melissa Clark from RFC and Jackie Schrott from UofM in a tie for Bronze.

In Men's Sabre with four entrants; Schoolcraft's Tim Schultz took home the Gold while Mike Williams from GLSC took silver. Schoolcraft's Sean Layow tied with the self described, Sly Ole Fox, Ron Shrank from GFC for Bronze.

In the Mixed Epee Event (10 Entrants); GLSC's Mike Williams won Gold while John Bolakowski from AADS placed Second. Tied for third were GLSC's Bill Currie and his GLSC teammate, Chris Pienta.

Congratulations to all of you.

Now Mike Harm, come on out to Renaissance Fencing Club this weekend and take a shot at earning yourself a D and the Pre Holiday Go Earn Yourself a Gift D and Under for all three weapons: WF 9:30, 10:00 ME, 11:30 WS, 12:30 MS, 1:30 MF, 2:00 WE.
