Article on Fencing BBC news online!

Alas it appears that Fencing is only cool as a result of Bond. Here's the link:

Bond Fans Fight Another Day

I have now seen the film and in terms of a 'Bond' movie, Die another Day is pretty poor. I had the luck of seeing Dr No during the day (it was on TV) before going out with some friends to see the new Bond. I have to admit I was quite impressed with the opening (not the action sequence but the bit where Bond gets imprisoned) that presented a rather nice propisition for the rest of the movie that was never fully explored. I hate to say it but there were some scenes that obviously intended to be dramatic that yet I fell about laughing at - not good,

The real point to all of this is my preamble to the Fencing scene. As a 'Fencing' Scene - poor. As a 'Swashbuckling' scene - average. If people are drawn to Fencing as a result of Bond then unfortunately they are going to be disapointed when they find out all the effort that they will need to put in in order to be semi-good. Additionally the oufits ... Madonna shouldn't have been allowed to show her face in the movie. What was she wearing? As an Epee coach her arms would end up being cut to pieces plus the tight leather, can you imagine how sweaty she would be after 2 minutes fencing. The English female fencer looked like she was wearing a bizarre tailored straightjacket. I have to admit that Bond and the bad guy wearing kit that wasn't too dissimilair to regular fencing kit.
