I have a pair of 9 reds. They're worn to heavily worn, but I'm a lefty so the wear pattern is likely different. I would still wear them, but I got some 8.5s that fit better. If you're interested I can post pictures. I'm definitely ok getting way under a hundred for them.

I was one of the very first people to order them, so they're like a year and a half old. I'll get some pictures up in the next couple days.

right.... and that's when they're available.... sure you could tell me that one baker was selling bread for 2 cents and they're sold out but i am selling it for 10 cents and you want it for 2 cents as well.... doesn't help you very much when they're sold out does it?

Some of the decals that said Nike Fencing or something on the tip of the tongue are missing. They fell off after a couple weeks. There's some wear on the right inside part from rolling my foot (right around the ball of the foot, the white rubber is ground down), which I took a picture of with the flash off so you could see it better. One of the laces is frayed, because it got dragged when I was rolling my foot. Other than that, the wear is just what you can see on the soles. The left is a lot more worn that the right.

$235 sounds reasonable giving the limited supply. What's the return policy?

Oh wait, the baker doesn't take returns on the bread.

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

The current shoes I use for fencing is also discontinued, I brought it at Sport Authority's clearance shelf red-tag priced at $39.99 plus $10 additional discount to a total of $29.99.

I have heard of the Ballestras, and saw one on display at Summer Nationals, why are they so hard to find? Doesn't this go against all capitalistic logic?

Because Ballestras are only been produced in limited numbers. Originally designed in order to satisfy a contract requirement associated with being "The Official Sponsor" to the 2008 Olympics, they are now being produced for a handful of college teams who's athletic departments have sponsorship agreements with Nike - the ones that occasionally come up for sale are most likely just leftovers from those production runs.

At one time consideration was supposedly given to producing the Ballestras for a wider market however the powers that be decided that fencing was too small of a market (at least by their standards) to justify the cost associated with ramping up to full production. Meanwhile the shoes produced for select college teams are considered to be one of the expenses associated with advertising (Nike is primarily interested in other sports, such as basketball and football - fencing is merely enjoying the benefits of being part of a larger package).

Interesting that you left out running...that was Nike's original market...it says a lot that basketball and football would come to mind before running.
