Array Old Hand...new to fencing I am an old hand (52) but new to fencing. I have been at it about 4 months and am really enjoying it. Years ago I had a young man working for me that took up the sport. At that time he was fencing in Hershey PA. Last September my Doctor told me I needed to get more exercise so I decided to research fencing in my area (Harrisburg, PA). As I found out my choices were limited. There was no reference to the club in Hershey any longer. The Harrisburg Club that was listed looked promising (It was just around the corner from my office). I tried to contact them but found they were no longer around. I found that York had a club. York is about 20 miles or so away. I emailed the coaches there and found they had a new class starting soon and they invited me to check it out. Now, at 52 I was the most advanced student in my class...advanced in age at any rate. The others ranged from about 8 to early 30s...so I could be their parent or {GASP}Grand parent! Fortunately none have called me "Gramps" yet so now after four months I am still having a great time. I get to bout after classes with folks that are a lot more advanced that me so I am picking up things each week. I have even gottent to the point that when I am doing something incorrectly I notice it myself Then take a hit when thinking that I have to do it differently....so all in all I wish I had started this 40 years ago but am looking forward to keeping it up if not for the next 40 years at least the next 15 or 20!! -

The oldest person I currently fence with, is about 86. So, 40 more years shouldn't be a problem.

The 2nd best is now.
So. Well done, and welcome to fencing! Often in error. Never in doubt. Similar Threads -
