    HELP! First International Event

Exactly what does my son need to do this next weekend at the Cadet MF tournament in Paris? The brochure says he needs a license but he has none. We applied for an FIE license back in Oct and Jeanna Mendoza sent us the Code of Conduct form which we faxed back but have never heard another word about either. From reading, I know that cadets do not need FIE licenses but is my son supposed to have something?

Also, the brochure states that there is check-in and armoury check on Friday, the night before the pools, but how does that work? Does the USFA rep (not Andrea) or the coach (Nat Goodhartz) sign in for everyone?

We leave tomorrow and we dont have a clue as what to do next weekend.

No, he doesn't need an FIE licence. He could have his USFA membership card in case but he probably won't be asked for it. (See invitation)

Maybe, maybe not. For some squads each fencer is on their own. Some squads have team managers. Maybe your assigned coach or team manager will organize fencers for registration and equipment check but maybe not so be prepared for your son to register and check his equipment himself. The USFA has no uniform procedure for cadet designated events.

Equipment check is similar to USFA events but since these are local cadet events what equipment is checked may be country specific. (Equipment information is on the invitation.) Unlike the US, registration is often done the night before. During registration, the fencer pays the entry fee. He should have the correct amount in euros to pay the entry fee. The entry fee amount will be on the invitation. (It seems that for this tournament, you will receive a discount in fees if payment is made by February 2. See invitation.)

At the top of the confirmation email from Jeanna Mendoza, there are probably email addresses of other fencers and parents that are going. Why not email some of them with any additional questions?

Thanks - I did e-mail a couple (no responses yet) but the info regarding his card and the money were the two things I was most concerned about.

If you applied for and paid for an FIE license, then it is online and if it is needed, then the tournament organizers will check for it.

Licences from all nations, French or foreign, or FIE are acceptable.

Fencers at the start are listed, so see if your son's name is posted.

Thanks teacup for all of your help and, yes Capt Slo-mo we are going four days early as my son has never been to Paris and there is not time between Paris and JOs. This is our "let's go and try not to mess up too badly trip
