Array Wowee the new iPad does everything!!!! Steve Jobs forgot to mention this very....um...important feature. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsjU0K8QPhs Psst: I HATE everything Apple. I was kinda excited about the iPad. But then I saw it and it's lame. They almost had a convert. I'll stick to my Sansa disk (soon to be upgraded Zune) and my IBM ThinkPad circa 2000s (soon to be upgraded anything other than a Mac) thank you very much. Cuz I'm a PC. -
ipad jokes are so yesterday.
after sitting on it for a while, i now believe that the ipad will be a seriously influential product once they iterate on it one or two times. -

Actually if it had a real tablet-style-pc keyboard, I might actually be interested Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem

Array I think it has a port for a keyboard. Not exactly the same thing, but hey, as a stockholder I will proselytize for profits. Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Yes, there was actually a docking station shown that had a full-sized keyboard. The on-screen keyboard looked quite useful. I wasn't so impressed by the current apps, although the iWorks presentation app looked interesting. The apps that follow that will make or break it (IMHO). The price was lower than I thought it would be, which means they probably will sell a ton of them.

I like my g4 powerbook and iPods just fine. I occupy this weird PC/Mac/Sun netherworld at the moment, but one thing that I do not own, have not owned since 1998 and will not own ever again is a single Microsoft product.
I just like a real, mechanical keyboard for typing on. The clickier the better. Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem

My personal computer is mostly a Final Cut/Pro Tools editing workstation, so I think I'll stick with my Mac.
That said, I'm fairly disappointed with the iPad. A big iPod touch with a 4:3 screen, no camera or mic, and 160$ extra just for HSDPA capability? It's a step and it's really cool looking, but I'm not convinced yet. I'll probably get a gen 2 or 3 when I can videoconference on it and use flash while on a 4G connection. -

Array The funny part is that video was posted on YouTube in 2007. It's probably older video than that xD In Flanders fields the poppies grow - Between the crosses, row on row, - That mark our place, and in the sky, - The larks, still bravely singing, fly, - Scarce heard amid the guns below. ~John McCrae -

EDIT: In that same vein, these are pretty interesting. Seems like it would take a while to get used to...

Ooooh it has a touch screen. Wow. We had Macs in our high school and that was 10 years ago and I hated them then. I will not pay to look "cool". -

And ten years ago you were probably still using OS9. The difference between OS9 and OSX is vast. I'd most likely compare it to the difference between Windows 98 and Windows 7, but that's still not right because Windows 7 uses a lot of legacy code. Maybe Windows 3.1 and Windows 7?
To repeat myself since it got ignored the first time: I use a Mac because I need a reliable platform to edit on. It doesn't hurt that my main editing tool is Mac only and that there isn't any "Apple tax" anymore than there is a "Sony tax" or a "Lenovo tax". -

I wasn't ignoring it, I just didn't have anything to say on it. I use my PC to surf the net and for word processing. That's it. Don't get me wrong, I think Macs look sexy but looks aren't everything. Besides the really good looking ones tend to cost more. Show me a beautiful Mac, I'll show you a hipster (follower) who's tired of ****ing it. Array If all you do is surf and wordprocess, you really should switch to Linux. I did it in '98 and haven't paid for windows or windows software since.
If you don't need all the features of FinalCut Pro, or Photoshop or something hugely expensive that ties you to a particular platform, F/OSS is totally the bomb. Here! My gift to you! Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem

Something about that click-clacking lets you know you are in an OFFICE now! "I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it." -

Yeah I don't need any of that other stuff. But I know there is a Linux language. I so don't get all of that stuff. If I have to ask my brother to do it, it's not worth it because that means it's not easy. Thanks for the link though. If it's easy, I'll try it. -

I suggest that you try downloading the live CD/DVD image. You can boot to the CD/DVD and explore freely without having to install anything permanently. I suggested Ubuntu since it is remarkably easy for the uninitiated to use. Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem

It's old enough that it lacks the Windows key and Menu key, and has AMAZING tactile response. My take:
The iPad is for consumption, not creation. If you're worried about the keyboard, then you need a laptop. (Bluetooth keyboard works, though, from what I've read.)
Kindle vs. Nook vs. iPad: iPad wins.
iPad vs. Netbook/Laptop: It depends on what you use it for.
I'm a bit surprised it didn't have a video camera for video chats.
I'm considering getting one for the kitchen. I'm always looking something up there, and a laptop is too bulky, because of the keyboard.
