While the Democrats are running around like chickens with their heads chopped off, the Republicans are shifting further and further to the right until I think one needs to have a Confererate flag in the back of the pickup truck, along with a bumper sticker about the government keeping its laws off our guns and another bumper sticker about "it's a child, not a right" just to be accepted at a Republican fund-raiser.

This is pretty much literally true. Megan McCain just got disinvited from speaking to the GWU college Republicans because of the recent news that she and Cindy are supportive of marriage equality.

Considering that there were 86 million registered Democrats and only 55 million registered Republicans for that election, your "wash" would amount to around 3,650,000 more Democrats switching parties than Republicans.

Less a wash than a scrubbing with lye soap and a wire brush. Not that it changed anything, of course.

I think Bush beat McCain. Or rather, the image of Bush projected by the left and the media did so.

Surrounding himself with advisors with affiliations with Bush and Karl Rove did not help his cause. Following the advice of these people to "suspend his campaign" didn't help McCain's cause. Not following through on doing anything visually constructive during that campaign suspension hurt him. Declaring he wouldn't be at the debate and then being there with nothing resolved didn't help him.

He came across looking like he didn't know what the hell to do and I think that's because he didn't. Finances were never McCain's strong suit and the people he had as financial advisors were some of the same people who had created the darn mess.
