Foil mask conductive bibs Hi,
I read something on a vendor's web site saying that the attachable conductive bibs for foil are not allowed in FIE competitions. Is this true? Does this mean I need to buy a new mask with the sewn on conductive bib?
I am wondering if anyone could also recommend where I can buy the attachable bib part online or the most cost effective complete mask, depending on which piece of equipment is permissible in world cups.
Also, what do people recommend in terms of visors? I saw that advisory notice at a NAC saying that something happened causing the visors to not be required for some time? I didn't really follow the issue very closely, but now it may be important if I end up needing to buy a new mask.
Thanks. -

Thanks. Retrofit kits have been approved by the FIE and are available for the following manufacturers:
Absolute, Allstar, Negrini, Leon Paul, PBT, and Uhlmann.
The retrofit kit used must come from the same manufacturer as the original mask.

The FIE has temporarily suspended the requirement of the use of the visor masks for foil competitions (they remain required for sabre competitions that required them previously and remain optional for epee competitions). This occurred as a result of an injury during competition a few months ago in Denmark.
Note that if you are in the US neither the new foil bib target nor visor masks are required at this time.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply!
Does anyone know where I can get the retrofit conductive bib kit made by Allstar? It's online, but their web site isn't working for the ordering and contact us pages (http://www.allstaruhlmann.co.uk/acat..._Upgrades.html). Any help with this would be great as well. -

I've looked at a few sites online and haven't found an FIE one for AllStar masks. Have you tried using the telephone and calling them?

I donīt know about these kits, but if you send your mask to Allstar, they can adapt it by sweing the knew piece of metal fabric on it. -
So, just to make sure I'm understanding correctly (since I'm coming back to fencing after a looooong hiatus):
If I'm fencing only in the US, and not competing, I can skip the conductive foil bib for now? Or would it be easiest to get it anyway? (I'm getting ready to order an X-change, my old mask is pretty much toast) -

Do it. Get the epee version. You can always get the conductive bib later if your (or USFA's) competition ideology changes.
Welcome back. .

So long as it's only USFA events (which include just about everything except an FIE event located within the US) you can skip the conductive bib for foil, even if you are competing. That's not to say that the USFA may not change its policy at some point and decide to require conductive bibs in foil - something a LP X-Change mask would provide simple insurance against.
And just in case you somehow missed it - visor masks are no longer permitted for foil or epee at either USFA or FIE events. -
Yeah, I saw something about that. Very unfortunate, but I was always suspicious of the Lexan masks anyway.
Thanks for all the great information, everyone! Similar Threads -
