Fencing article in Delta's monthly Sky magazine!

Coming back from Atlanta to Chicago on Delta yesterday, I found this article in their Sky magazine. They also made reference to this article on their TV programs on the plane.

That was a great article! It was one of the most intelligently written articles on fencing that I've seen. Let's hope it makes lots of travelers think about trying fencing too. It was factually pretty good and would make people try fencing for the "right" reasons which means they would be more likely to stick with it.

I've always thought airline magazines are the best place to print a fencing article. Indeed, I attempted to write one about my experience in the PFL. However, my writing took on a too-dark thread about the piss poor service from Tower Air (now thankfully bankrupt and out of business) that I didn't think any airline would be happy to print that in their in flight magazines.

Look, you got maybe 200 passengers per flight, with well over 2000 flights per day for some airlines (I'm estimating 20 flights per airport, 100 airports), that's 400K most-likely eyeballs (ok, drop 10-15% for kids under 15 who would be doing something else instead) per day. Multiply that by 30 days per month and you get around 10 million eyeballs reading your article.

I think USFA should definitely spearhead it, as the main benefactor will be the USFA, increasing the membership roll tremendously. It would be good if USFA can provide information about clubs around the country and other starter information.

Nice article. I particularly liked the phrase about the, "satisfyingly acrcane" rules. That pretty much sums up how I feel about right of way in foil. Will have to send this one around to folks in my club.
