    Gothenburg JWC Epee

    This is one of my favourite events... and you guys send a modern army of cadets and juniors - will anyone on the forum be there?

    I know that some people who read the forums will be there. Don't know about their level of active participation.

    Results from this event often determine the junior and cadet men and women epee team members.

    The Jr ME estimated strength factor is 2.38, total of 216 fencers, which is much stronger than in previous years.

    7 of the top 8, 3 of the 8 - 16 and 12 of the 17 - 32nd world ranked fencers are attending. (No Hungarians or Canadians.)

    JSF = {216/3 + 10 (7) + 8(3) + 6 (12) + 12 (0)
    2.38 = 72 + 70 + 24 + 72 + 0

    Jr WE estimated strength factor:
    (No Hungarians, Russians or French)

    JSF = {151/3 + 10 (1) + 8(6) + 6 (6) + 12 (0)
    1.44 = 50.33 + 10 + 48 + 36 + 0

    Yet, many of the US top junior men and women fencers are not attending, due to an NCAA conflict, North Western University meet, and/or other reasons.

    For points-awarding purposes it does, but I think it's worthwhile doing (and reporting) the calculation Teacup did as it really emphasizes just how strong this season's JME event will be.

    I agree it helps to understand the level. This tournament basically replaced the Tauberbishofsheim Jr WC in Germany that they stopped about 4 years back. (I think I coached the last one in Jan '05.) Gotenberg was just started a few years before that and was weak the first two years. The year that Germany stopped hosting Taub everyone went there instead. It is much like Laupheim and Bratislava on ME what one might call beyond ccategory like they do in cycling.

    Compared to that, last year was quite balmy.

    Yeah. Very nice web site, but in Sweden it's about 9 pm Saturday right now and no JME or CWE pool results are posted yet. Too bad. Maybe they just forgot?

    Anyway, anyone have a report on the USArmyofyouth?

    All the Brits (+ Australian, who almost counts) have just landed at London Stansted (it's 00:24 on Tuesday morning here), having flown from Gothenburg to Frankurt and then to London (try looking at the map!).

    Did any of you guys have travel problems?

    Considering the context, this is definitely one of the funniest posts on F.net I've ever seen.
    "Sir, didn't I parry"
    "You didn't take advantage of his blade enough, so no."

    (I guess i should have romanced it a bit more..."
