How to Ship fencing bag (w/ Equipment)? Dear All,
I'm currently at one of the Claremont Colleges in California. Upon learning about the fencing program here, I'm having my family ship me all my equipment from New York. I'm just not sure how.
Many of the shipping carriers need to have everything in a box and this will be quite difficult and annoying as much of the equipment varies from shape and size.
The one method that I have found is FedEx's shipping method, similar to ski equipment but I do not know how that works and whether or not it does for Fencing.
Does anyone have any experience in this?

Regards I just shipped an SKB hard golf case with some gear in it to the Lake Tahoe area for a client...used FedEx Ground (cost about $25-30). Go to a store and get a box big enough for your bag (regardless of what type)
After packing the gear inside the bag, pack more stuff into it to pad and hold the gear steady (clothes are a good idea). Also pack stuff around the bag once it's in the box for the same reason.
Look me up Saturday...I'll be vending the tournament in the gym at Harvey Mudd. -

Array Another option (assuming we are talking about a soft bag that can be folded and packed) would be to have someone take your weapons apart, pack the guards, grips, sockets and pommels in the same box as your bag, mask, whites, etc, then pack the blades are packed in a shipping tube (the sort used to ship rolled up drawings or posters). Then when everything arrives you put it all back together again.
Of course this approach does require people on either end who know what they are doing (how much do you and your parents know about maintaining fencing equipment?). Also bear in mind that regardless of how well everything is packed you may still need to rewire at least one foil or epee blade once it arrives (saber is so much simpler in that regard).
