Array Summer Fencing Camps in the MIDWEST??? We are considering sending our daughter to a summer fencing camp, something like a 1 or 2 week program. We'd prefer it be in the midwest as that is where we reside.
Can anyone recommend a summer camp that offers 1 or 2 week intermediate courses in Saber in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan or Wisconsin that would be suitable for a 15 year old girl with 2.5 years of experience in Saber fencing, with 1 year competing on a small high school team?
Does Culver Military Academy run a summer specialty camp for Fencing?
What about some of the colleges in the area? Do any of them run summer fencing camps? -

Dave Thanks, I'll check into Northwestern, that might be a good option.
Anyone know if Culver is going to run one? I am pretty sure they used to have them as part of their specialty camp program.
Or how about Notre Dame, do they run a summer camp?
Our club (Northwest Indiana Fencing Club in St John, IN) offers lessons and plenty of opportunities for fencing but we are looking to give her a more intensive experience by sending her somewhere for about a week.

Array IndySabre has, in the past, made arrangements with a local family to host a fencing camp participant. From your description, it sounds like you are looking for a resident summer camp experience.
If you're willing to go a little further, Ohio State offers this: http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/Vie...&ATCLID=925308
I suggest you e-mail Igor to see if there will be summer camps for fencing at Culver. http://eaglenet.culver.org/fencing/fenccoch.html -

Array I believe there may be a four day fencing camp in chicago. I'm not sure, but I know the Sabre coach there and even for four days he would be worth seeing.
Housing/hotel in chicago might be expensive...

Feel free to PM me for details. I don't think any specific details exist yet. Housing, dates, and guest coaches are all still in planning.

Feel free to PM me for details. That is actually close enough for us to commute in/out daily if they don't offer a residence program!
Her team is supposed to be fencing up at the UC/Lab School within the next couple of weeks. What is the coach's name? I'd like to inquire while we are there. All of it will depend on dates, she will probably take one session of summer school this summer too so we are trying to line up dates for camps and compare them to the classes offered during each of the 2 summer school sessions to see what we can balance. She is hoping for Honors Latin or a good history course to be offered. School comes first. Array We're going to be running one pre nationals camp and one pre season campe (early june and early august, respectively, but no official dates yet) at Olympia Fencing Academy in St. Louis, with a good number of youth and cadet sabre fencers if your daughter is interested, and if St. Louis isn't too far out of the way. Array Probably the best bang for your buck in saber out of all those options would be the Ohio State fencing camp if Nazlymov is coaching. -Sabresque

Array Just a couple of updates for anyone interested.
Bakhyt Abdikulov is running a SPRING CAMP at the University of Chicago. Sadly the dates conflict with my daughter's school, as the camp is a day camp in late March and her Easter vacation is in April she won't be able to attend this camp. However if anyone has a free week in March and wants to attend, this might be a good one to attend.
I also spoke with the coach from Culver. They will be having a summer fencing camp for 2010 but the dates have not yet been determined. He said they should have everything firmed up quickly and should have the dates posted reasonably soon.

Array I talked to Bahkyt on Saturday, and he was considering running 3 camps this summer. One in June, July, and August respectively this summer. He does not have any of the dates set yet though.

Dave Dave you and I were in the same gym on Saturday!
Bahkyt emailed me a follow up today and gave me the phone number of the saber coach at Lakeshore. I'll be following up with him at some point. I don't know the address for the club (just have been to lazy to look it up) but I gather it is in the Lincoln Park area, that is a bit over an hour drive away so its within reason to run up there for a day camp if that is where the summer camps will be. U/High at U of Chicago is easier for us, but either way will work.
