some suppliers will stencil it for you, but most ppl have it done by marx enterprises at one of the NACs. as for sizing, most of the catalog sites have sizing charts on them that you jsut compare your measurements to. -

Array I've had good results going one size up from the jacket size, so if your jacket's a Euro 34, get a 36 lame...you need to account for the jacket. -

Array Be aware that different companies have quite different sizing schemes - i.e. I would be a "36" in Leon Paul, but a "42" in Allstar lame jackets.
Also different manufacturers have different "cuts" (I find that Allstar cuts leaner on the shoulders and higher on the hips than Leon Paul) - many people like a leaner/higher cut for competitions (less target area).
I take the same size lame jacket as fencing jacket: this gives me the snuggest possible fit over my hips and shoulders (again avoiding unnecessary target).
The best way to buy a lame jacket is to try it on (either at a competition/shop or if you have a lame owning friend who is a similar size). If you are buying your first lame without trying it on, then don't get it printed by the manufacturer: if it is the wrong size you can't send it back if it is already printed.
Boo
(if your name is printed on the back of your jacket then your days of anonymity are numbered - still if you loose your lame, it should find its way back to you...) -
Since you're in Long Island, you're not terribly far from a number of vendors (Blade Runners is in Copaigue)-- the ideal thing would be to stop by one and try lames on.
Any vendor in the U.S. will be able to convert from your U.S. chest size (inches around the chest right under the arms) to the European size if necessary.
In terms of variations in cut, Allstar lames then to be cut slim in the body. Infinitys also are fairly trim, though not as much so as Allstar. Uhlmann lames are somewhat wider, and Santellis wider still. Triplette lames don't appear to have any taper in the body at all.
If you're a tough fit, Santelli can send you a measurement page to fill out and then make you a custom lame (for an extra price, of course).
