Array Fencing 2003! (the game) I've been thinking lately that a fencing video game would be really awesome if done right. So much, I've even made up the controls for a would be game! These are my ideas for the controls (in PS2 format as I only have a PS2)
L1 button- Retreat (tap to retreat faster/double retreat)
R1 button- Advance (tap to advance faster/double advance)
L2 button- En guarde
R2 button- Declare attack (put arm out)
L3 analog button- position the blade, most useful in foil and epee
R3 analog button- Tap to lunge, move and let go to slash in that direction
DIRECTIONAL BUTTONS
Up- Parry head attack
Down- Parry stab
Left and right- Parry slashes or stabs to sides
Left or right + down- Parry leg attacks in epee
NORMAL BUTTONS
Triangle- Head attack
Square and Circle- stab/slash sides
X....how would you spell out X ?- chest attack
Those are my thoughts. I think it goes quite deep considering the number of buttons available. I only wish I could've fit in things like reposes and deception, and tricks like beat attacks and bellestras and all that. But that's why I posted this! Anyone who has ideas for refining this or making controls for a different system go right ahead! When this is done, I plan on e-mailing it to EA Sports or Sega Sports since they would do the best job IF it really does get made.
Oh, titles would be neat too...as you can see I did a default Fencing 2003, but I was also considering FASA 2003. -

Array since you already have positioning of the blade, the anaologue buttons, then you could use just triangle for attacl, and direct yur attack with teh anolog joy stick thingy. This frees up 3 buttons. X could be balestra, Circle feint, and Square, pris de fer........just an idea. -

Array BTW I think you need N64 controls also. -

Array N64 controls??? What would the point of that be? Sorry, but the N64 is a dead system, no companies will make any more games for it. The goal is to make a company at least consider making a game of this!
BTW Iwant2beafencer, I'm considering your ideas, I hadn't thought of that. -

Array Best bet would be PS2. Open programming architecture as compared to XBox. -

Array Will there be a button for arguing the director's call/throwing your mask across the venue in anger?

Array Not really. Fencing would make one real boring video game, unless holodeck comes to existance. -

Array You've got to be kidding! I'd play it!

Array I was talking about his control scheme. Thinking about it, it sounds like a great idea when you're using foil or epee in the game. When sabre is being used, the way it is now should work well since it'll put more emphasis on fast attacks like in real life!
Hm, perhaps this really might work. Keep the ideas coming! -

Array Right now, I am trying to create a better fencing game from Macromedia Flash. Any flash experts out there that can give me a hand? [B][color=green] BOOM! Here comes da boy from da north! -

Array No, but I can provide you with an opinion from a kid who is a video game player expert. He is about to complete Vice City and LOR. -
