| I suppose that means we shouldn't be directing bouts on a darkened street corner...might get misconstrued as gang signs! (anyone else remember the deaf dude shot in a drive by because some moronic gang-banger thought he was flashing gang signs?) |

| Yeah, that wouldn't be a good idea. Plus, I don't thiknk they'd ever be able to comprehend Right of way! The director would say fence and the gangster would pull out his piece and shoot his opponent. We'd black card him!

And the term "piece" here could be use in so many wrong ways! |

| Article about the premier: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...film_bond_dc_2 Quote: |
The most spectacular death in Hollywood history almost occurred when one of the duelists toppled backward and nearly landed on MGM chairman Alex Yemenidjian. Imagine the MGM topper skewered by a sword at a Bond premiere. Who needs publicity campaign if something like that happens?
| That would be good publicity... |

| I don't think it will be a Bond flop. It looks pretty good to me. Bob Anderson has the gift of making things unauthentic but FUN!
There will be atleast 3 fencing scenes in the movie. That twice as much as ever before. The last time we saw Bond use a sword was Roger Moore's Moonraker. Besides Rosamund Pike and Halle Berry are HOT

Since you are from Scotland you probable have your own reasons. I would not call the fight scene average. What did you not like about it?

| Well, I understand that the movie took liberties with history and the Sir Walter Scott novel, but I still enjoyed the movie. I love Fisher's selction of scene from the movie. I really think that Tim Roth makes the movie. Let me go into more depth on the movie.
Honestly, the movie was too long and certain scenes could and should have been left out. I enjoyed the movie for its atmosphere but can never show my girlfriend a movie with as many sexual scenes as this one. That being said, you can imagine that I will not be in theatres for the new Bond movie. I don't know enough to say if the duel was proper or not, but I really enjoyed the different styles. Would I put Rob Roy up against say Ivanhoe (also Scott), not a chance. However, I still enjoyed the movie.

Hey D'art' I feel your pain!
It's only a movie - tell her to lighten up. |

| Stephen F,
I admit it's been a while since I saw Rob Roy and I can't quite remember what I [specifically] didn't like about the fight scenes however I remember them as being just a bit generic, with a rather cliched ending. Tim Roth was alright (and the best thing in the movie) but he is capable of much better (see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead).
Additionally there are far better movies out there:
The Duellists
The 4 Musketeers
The 3 Musketeers
Robin Hood (and no not the one with Kevin Costner - don't start me on that one)
The Princes Bride
Le Bossu
etc etc
Next time it's [Rob Roy] on I'll watch it again and asses the fight scenes again. |

| Gav,
I'm with you on your other fine choices. Have not seen Le Bossu. The Duellists will be coming out on DVD this December in the US. As for the 3 & 4 Musketeers, I have seen them so many times I can quote every line like I used to be able to do when watching Star Wars. |

| Le Bossu has some excellent fight scenes and has one of the craziest 'special moves' I've ever seen in a swashbuckling movie. |

| I found the picture very interesting. Bond wearing a Left-handed Sabre jacket with a Epee held by the Right Hand. He doesn't have his glove on, so I can't tell if he fences Left-handed. Does anyone knows. I seem to remember in previous movies, he shoots right. The mask doesn't appear to be insulated on the outside, but if it had been we could have said that Bond had covered all the bases! (weapons)

| Well, the guys he's looking at has a body cord hanging from his right hand, so it looks like they're doing an electric scene. Bond has no cord hanging from his left hand, so unless he's going dry, he's fencing right handed.
An old sabre jacket? Where'd they get THAT?? Neither Jr. nor I would put that out there...must've been from some other prop house.
*sigh* that's what you get when there's no concern for accuracy in the film biz. |

His bio states that he is left hand. |
