Mariel Zagunis awarded the “Challenge Chevalier Feyerick" by the FIE Congress From the FIE web site http://www.fie.ch/download/press/200...013-09_eng.pdf Ms Mariel Zagunis (USA) was awarded the prestigious “Challenge Chevalier Feyerick ¹”.
¹ The Challenge Chevalier Feyerick, from the name of the Secretary General of the FIE from 1933 to 1940, is an honorary trophy awarded either to an individual fencer, or to a team or group of fencers, or to the member federation which, during the last two years has shown the most chivalrous and unselfish attitude and spirit of sportsmanship. (Chapter XI of the FIE Statutes).
The SILENCE about this prestigious recognition of an American fencer, Olympic (twice) and current world champion, on the USFA web site is ... deafening. -
What a tremendous recognition for a US fencer. Congratulations! Tell me who are you?

Array I think she direly deserves it. She really is an awesome fencer and from what I can gather, an awesome person. I've taken quite a bit of my current game from her tactics and techniques she used during the Olympics. I think she's fantastic and very deserving of this award.
That said, once again, the USFA has dragged it's heels...this is really getting rather disconcerting... -
hors classe.... Mariel = best.
Simple.

Array She must have moved in the last two weeks: in a previous article on the USFA site ("Bouwkamp and Zagunis Recognized in USOC Female Athlete of the Month for October") she was said to live in Beaverton, Oregon, while this one says Portland.
(Beaverton is a suburb of Portland, and, AFAIK, the correct answer) Similar Threads -
