SAN JOSE, California - The U.S. Olympic Committee will stage the first Titan Games, a multi-sport competition designed to challenge Summer Olympic hopefuls, Feb. 14-15 at San Jose State University.

Committee CEO Lloyd Ward made the announcement Thursday in San Jose.

American athletes will compete against athletes around the world as a testing ground prior to the Athens Olympics in 2004.

The USOC developed the Titan Games in partnership with national governing bodies of several sports. Participants will compete in judo, taekwondo, weightlifting, boxing, fencing, wrestling and other events.

    Brilliant planning it opposite JO's....

Interestingly it appears that the format will be US vs. other countries with 2-3 other countries depending on the event. No info regarding who the fencing opponent's are likely to be. Generally it's things like the US's world #2 wrestling vs. Russia (world #1) and Cuba (#4), US (#2) vs. Korea (#1) and Vietnam in Tae Kwon Do, US vs. Cuba (#1), Mexico, and Puerto Rico in boxing, US vs. Hungary (#2) and Pan-Am all-stars in weightlifting, etc.

Be nice if the info about this were coming from US Fencing, no? At the very least there should have been a press release on the usfencing.org website simultaneous to the general announcements.

Okay, here's the actual website for the games:
    http://www.usolympicteam.com/titangames/

Absolutely zero infor beyond the date and the sports involved. Okay, I guess they give the location too. Just a single screen website as of right now, presumably as it gets closer this will actually be developed and have content.
