Array Horrible Refs Ever had one of those tournaments where your ref just sucked?
Or the other way around, he was horrible but it affected your points in a good way?
For instance, a ref who normally refs foil doesn't care about your feet crossing over in saber. THAT would be nice. -

Array Yes to both questions. Did this really need a thread? -

switch to epee if refs bother you THAT much Randal : [after the fire at the Quick Stop] Terrorists?

Randal : I left the coffee pot on again, didn't I?

You think epee refs don't get any grief? -

Still, we love you guys. And girls. Really. But for the record, you know, I was still on the strip when I hit. But that's ok. Really, it's fine. Hey, look, someone was video taping. Want to go look? Just for fun? No? Well, nevermind. But really, it's fine. You get to make one call for the whole bout and you blow it, heh, that's kind of funny, really, isn't it? Hey, nevermind, man, it's fine. Just fine. -

Array As long as it is a thread: Hey refs - ever had horrible fencers argue about hilariously correct calls and leave the tournament thinking you were a bad referee, then go home and start threads about it?
My favorite thing about these fencers is that since they're already right about everything they never have to get better at fencing. Now if only all the refs out there weren't so bad they could have some success.. As a side note, LOL. -

Array Nico, I would HIGHLY recommend lurking for a while. You just joined, and you've started a few threads. This is not the first where you've been met with criticism and sarcasm. F.net is a very small community, where the majority of posters know the identity of others. There is a dynamic, and new, uninformed, posters often aren't met with the nicest attitude.
Just... lurk for a while. Read and do minimal posting for a few months. I promise it'll get you far.
Or, continue in this path, and we'll continue to make fun... "Sir, didn't I parry"
"You didn't take advantage of his blade enough, so no."
(I guess i should have romanced it a bit more..." -

Array Umm. I had 3 great ref's at my first tournament :P And I know a 4th who's good. All were saber refs. Though one guy definitely wanted to be somewhere else, he called very well. I don't really mind. I've been criticized all my life and I don't really care. Being a "noob" (heavy use of air quotes) is just part of the internet, right? How many foilists does it take to change a light bulb?
- Trick question; changing light bulbs is too practical for foilists. -

Array Hey guys, have any of you had any horrible girlfriends that have broken your hearts? RebelFencer's Awesome Quote of the Week:

Now if only all the refs out there weren't so bad they could have some success.. Oh yes. I had one this weekend, who fleched at his opponent while in his own 2 metere box, missed, and left the piste. The inevitable happened - I moved his opponent forward one metre, placing the flecher over the back line, and awarded the hit. The guy was then complaining that I couldn't do that because he was fleching! I may have suggested he read the rules. Strangely, his team-mates weren't interested in backing him up! (It was the 5 Nations team event - England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland) -

Did he pass before leaving the strip? If so, then he _might_ have had a valid complaint... That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again. -
No, he didn't. I do know the rules. -

So if you say "fleched at his opponent while in his own 2 metere box, missed, and left the piste" without stating the (implicit and perhaps obviously so to some) fact that "he left the piste before passing his opponent" someone will argue about it. I caught this morning morning’s minion, king-

Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstasy! then off, off forth on swing,
As a skate’s heel sweeps smooth on a bow-bend: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
Stirred for a bird,—the achieve of; the mastery of the thing! -

I think you're giving him a little too much credit. I don't think he was playing devil's advocate, but rather IS the someone who will argue about it.
