Fencing on the Texas Coast-Local History

I have been working for about a year (off & on, spare time type of thing) on a history of fencing in area that is currently the Gulf Coast Division (Houston, Galveston, Beaumont, Corpus Christi). I have reproduced a link to one of the pages on the site.

I know fencers, like everyone else out there, tend to move around quite a bit. If there are fencers out there who would like to share a memory or anecdote, offer an opinion or advise, or relate an experience I would be happy to try to work it in.

I am trying to include as many "voices" as I can. Fencing is, ultimately, about the people.

A word of caution, this is a very rough "work-in-progress, and it changes slightly from month to month.

Your site is masterful and interesting. You celebrate the development and legacy of fencing on the Texas Gulf Coast. It's a great read. I would like to see your reference list...that would be an education in itself. Why not profile the little ones, your future entries. It sounds like there are a lot of personalities and character in many of the contemporaries.

Nice site and an admirable goal. ( But how I hate popups! )

The refernce list is a hodgepodge of newspaper clippings, old tournament results, like those that have appeared over the years in American Fencing, hard copies of websites, personal interviews and both emailand snail mail correspondence.

I actually have several 3-ring binders of the info in (more or less) chronological order to help me stay semi-organized.

Sorry about the pop-up windows. Due to certain economic constraints I am forced to use "free" sites.

I did not understand the request about profiling "the little ones." Small fencing groups or what?

You are definitely right about one thing. There are certainly a lot of personalities and character (or is it characters?)

schlager: don't worry about the pop ups, some people are such snobs. i wear baseball pants to fence in. I have developed a true love of epee, and was happy to see it mentioned on your site. It would be great to see more epee and more about the sport.

Interesting stuff, I had no idea there were any fencing masters who were mimes.

Schalger, "little ones" are kids. If you have that material perhaps you should consider a book. I would buy that book. It certainly would be a different fencing book. Plus I like reading about local fencing history.

I think the history of fencing in the US would be interesting especially a state by state history.
