Lighter Touch

*smile* Just to add a small touch of humour. At our club there is an ongoing joke about referring to our weapons as swords. It dates back to the year Summer Nationals were in Santa Clara, California. A group of us were flying out of Kansas City airport with our large collection of fencing bags.

It was there that we learned, when Security asks you what is in the bag and you answer "Weapons!" you aren't necessarily going to get a very favorable response. I still remember the look on that fencer's face at the Security guard's response and the look on his face when he heard it. Priceless! At which point we were admonished that the NEXT time they asked the contents of our luggage to just answer, "Swords" BEFORE everyone thinks we're smuggling machineguns onto the flight.

*grins* Guess you just had to be there.

I always use "fencing equipment".

Most of the time they just nod.

Or just lie all together. When asked the question, "Golf Clubs" will work.

"Sports Equipment" also works well. Or in my case..."my life from the last year....loss it I sue..." also works.

Another bit of light humor.

Unfortunately, the last time I said I had to pick up some "fencing equipment", the person I was talking to (a professor of mine! EEP!) asked me what type of animal I was enclosing.

It took me a moment to come up with an answer that wouldn't get me and "F" in the class!

Of course, we missed the perfect opportunity to instruct epeenewbie in converting to the darkside.

Sabres have no wires or moving parts at all, so they are perfect for beginners to assemble, disassemble, maintain and repair. Or better yet, just to leave alone and learn how to use on the strip!
