    High tops

Hey crew. I'm looking at some fencing shoessssss (A man can't have enough fencing shoes apparently :/ )

Anyway, I was wondering whether there was any real benefit in high tops? They're $5 cheaper right now, so ... ?

And as always, looks are the most important

I hardly see anyone use high tops. I may even go as far as saying I've never seen anyone wear high tops on the strip. Hence why they're on sale...

I think the intention is that you'll get some ankle support out of it, but you'd be much better off with an actual ankle brace if you have problems.

But, they are $5 cheaper, and you could rock a pretty awesome 1980's attire if you had the right patch/hairdo/fencing bag. If that's your goal, then more power to ya.

Most high tops just keep your ankles warm. Some of the Adidas ones actually have hard strips in the sides for a little extra angle support, but most that I have seen do not.

High tops give you a very small amount of additional ankle support -- though a brace is, quite obviously better. You wouldn't think it would do much, but for whatever reason I seem to have stopped chronically spraining my ankles after switching to them. They seem to allow the right combination of freedom of movement vs support for me.

    Although your mileage may vary.
