    USFA's FAX machine

So, OK, I waited till the day of the deadline. But, while we wait for such technical miracles as Hang-A-Star and online registration to materialize, perhaps the USFA could invest in an extra FAX machine so that people could register at the last minute? Just my one fee (which they will probably lose, since I can't stand by the FAX machine all day, hoping it gets through this time) would probably pay for it...

Uh oh, is that what I have to look forward too? I just earned my C yesterday, just finished filling out the paperwork, now I have to go find someone with a fax machine....

Congratulations!!!! And, good luck with the fax machine -- or with getting a live person at the USFA.

    Hi hello?,

If you've got a lesson today, bring your entry if it hasn't gone through yet. The club has a fax machine that keeps trying. It only took me two shots to get through.

I've been trying to send a fax for the past 3 hours. For the longest time I got a busy signal, now it rings but does not pick up. I guess this is the plan to increase revenue thru triple fees?

You could also try scanning and emailing the entry form - even if they still require a fax/hard copy (I don't see why though) at least you have some evidence that you tried to (and actually did) submit before the deadline.

Hi. I'm from the 21st century, and would like to welcome you. There is no reason why I should ever have to do this after 1995.

This is amateur hour, no excuses.

I know someone who faxed registration for Pittsburgh NAC
on the last day of TRIPPLE fees (he just got his rating and was willing to pay)
No luck, no confirmation, no response for emails or voice messages...

This is actually not true. I know plenty of people who - for quite valid reasons - still use fax. I deal with them day to day.

USFA could make people's lives much easier by using an e-fax service - this is assuming that they want to keep the fax service running into the future.

I think the best solution will be for USFA to start giving out Hang a Star's fax number and have them process the registrations until the system that was due in June is available.

If the USFA had an e-fax service it wouldn't matter who was doing the processing, you would just direct the fax at whoever.

My advice would be to enter earlier!

Thanks for the advice, will you loan me the registration fee so I can register earlier?

Sorry fdad. Not my job to keep you in fencing. If you need someone to help you keep control of your fiscal situation I know an email address where you can send your bank details?

This isn't surprising. The USFA has demonstrated over and over again that they hate money.

Has anyone EVER suggested that the USFA work with Peet of AskFred to help design and run an online registration system for NACs?

No, nobody has ever thought of that ...

Excellent idea! (I have a feeling their fax doesn't work either, though.)

Of course, of course. This is actually the first time I have ever left it to the last minute. That said, it is inexcusable that it is so hard to register on a day that, according to the USFA, is still WITHIN the deadline for regular registration. Sorry.

Last year, we had online registration. This year, we don't. Inexcusable. And stupid.

You fool! That is way too logical. Just think of all the angst and turmoil that would save. It certainly wouldn't be prudent to make things run smoothly since everyone needs to get their daily dose of trouble from somewhere.

Move along... Nothing to see here.

Those at the USFA in the position to decide, for whatever reasons, chose Hang-a-Star instead of AskFRED or other options which may have been suggested.
