I welcome you to the sport of fencing and to our forums. Don't let the idiots around here get you down.
Cheers.

Quit (no longer with us)
Array the idea that you have to be fencing forever too be good is a myth - its a simple forumula of will and determination.
i fenced for a few months and beat b fencers - no lie - and they weren't letting me win either (because they were super pissed) but i fenced 5 days a week read everybook on fencing from every library in my city and watched videos of fencing in slow motion over and over again and until i literally dreamed fencing and when i fence i will do anything -ANYTHING -to get the next hit - win the next bout.
it's all about Will brosepherus maximus you could have an A rating in 12 months if you wanted it bad enough

(like the way way fatfencer wants someone to invent weenis flavored cheeseburgers) Since I started fencing, I upgrade my rating within every 6 months, U to E, E to D, D to C, C to B, then took 4 years off from competitions, came back and B to A within 4 months. Total time, taking out that hiatus, to go from U to A is 2 years 3 months.
More I have improved, the more I realize I have to learn. It has been almost 10 years since I started fencing (including 4 years and later 1 1/2 year off competitions, and twice took 1/2 year off totally; no pratice, not touch a weapon), all I can see is how far I have to go, miles & miles, in comparsion, I barely took seven steps in the last ten years.
To said "I have come a long way" while asking novice questions in multiple threads... feels like a joke to me.

Array I think you are underestimating the total length of the journey. If I count from one to a trillion, it doesn't mean I'm any closer to infinity than I was when I started, but it does mean that I have done an awful lot of counting.
I've only been fencing for a few months, and I have eons worth of things to learn before I could possibly describe myself as "skilled." But I do also know undefined times more than I did when I started.
(Whee, dividing by zero) Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

(Whee, dividing by zero) Just because a baby said his/her first word, which is infinity% more than before, does not mean he/she has "come a long way"; it is just a first step in a life time journey.
Unless you are joking. -
The first word ... the first step -- they are breakthroughs, quantum leaps. And events like that happen more often early, don't they. So maybe OP's come a long way in a year and a half, without denying that there's still a long, long way to go. -

Array Some days, I wake up and feel that in itself is a major step that I feared would not happen.
I wish I could say I was joking about that.
Goals and ambitions are good, but without knowing where we are, how can we get where we are going? Our _here_ is defined by how we got here and no matter how painful or pleasant, it is real.
Revel in the baby steps. Smell the flowers. Appreciate the small things.
And, to stay on topic, the best fencing club in the world, may not be the best club for me and my goals. Enjoy what you got, but expect that there may be something better. -

Array The Arizona Fencing Academy. No doubt the best (only) sport fencing club in the Tucson metropolitan area! Fail until you succeed!
Ka-riposte back atcha Purple!
