| Visiting Adult Saberist in San Francisco Area I am a 26 yr old female saber fencer that will be in San Francisco in February for a convention. I am looking for a recommendation for a fencing club in the Bay area. I would like a club that has open saber bouting with mostly adults or older teens. I am not a extremely competitive fencer, so it does not have to be an "Olympic" level club. I am just looking for a few good bouts that will be worth the floor fees.
If I can get to the club using public transportation in San Francisco, even better.
If there is another thread that answers this question, please send me a link. I am new to fencing.net and could not find this answer when searching posts. |

| I don't know what other SF clubs have saber, but I believe Halberstadt does, and their evening people are almost all adults. The club is walking distance from 16th St. BART. I don't know what days saber meets, so you should check the club's website. |

| You should come to fence epee instead.

| First Place Fencing has some strong sabre fencing. Its also a pretty laid back atmosphere.

If you have a car then First Place would also be a reasonable choice though I believe their program is more youth oriented. UCB has a very small saber squad but there it depends on the school schedule as well, Mondays and Wednesdays, in the late evening, 8-11. But it is convenient to BART as is Halberstadt.

I was working off my recollections from recent visits when the youth were out in force. When do you let the curmudgeons out?
Still given the OP's request for public transportation HFC would be my first recommendation but I'll own up that 1st Place would be 2nd. If you don't mind the ordering based on transportation.
