    Stripped tang

I found some old eepe blades in a bag and have rewired them successfully.

However, the tang threading on one is stripped. The pommel nut will tighten to a point, then give.

The only die I have, (assuming I can find the thing) is a clean-up die and I don't know if it would be of much help. Would it help?

Is there any hope for this blade? Any way to salvage the threads of the tang?

Is it possible to re-cut the threads to a smaller OD... and then find some pommel nut somewhere to fit it or something?
Often in error. Never in doubt.

Assuming you're starting with a 6x1 metric thread on the tang, you can easily rethread it as a 12-24NC. With a little luck you might even find a 12-24NC pommel lying about somewhere (that used to be Santelli's standard - they may be gone but many of their pommels remain). Baring that, you could make your own by tapping out a 3/16 threaded rod coupler (see Merg's book).

If the tang was already threaded 12-24NC then you're stuck with either rethreading down to something like 5 mm (or maybe 3/16 in), which will weaken the tang, or the extreme solution, which is to cut the tang off between the transition from square to round and the threads, then welding a new section of tang in its place (possibly salvaged from a broken blade).

I don't recommend trying that last one unless you really know what you are doing (too easy to get a crappy weld).

Depending on where it's stripped, this may not work, but......
Try putting in enough washers to space the pommel up to the point where the threads are still good.

Rather than a bunch of washers, which might actually work against each other, see of yo can find a solid spacer you can use for the same effect.
