Small grip?

Does anyone else find the grip of their foil to be to small in diameter? I have a tough time get a good firm hold on it. Recommendations for increasing the girth? Tape?

Thanks...Piobaire

I'd recommend practicing holding the grip more. You don't need a death grip on it. I assume you're talking about a French grip. A bigger grip will encourage a tighter grasp which will, in turn, start to involve your wrist, elbow and shoulder in your blade actions. This would be bad.

If you're talking about a pistol grip, change the grip size, although one is usually better off with a grip which seems a bit small when one first tries it.

I have two French Epees. One has a fatter grip, the other thinner. My thin grip gives me a fine hold and I am quite dangerous with the weapon. My fatter grip makes me slower and easier to disarm. In time your cramping will go away and you'll be making them cry.
