Not really. I said Obama had some good remarks, which I still agree with. But I refrained from pointing out some of his errors. His speech was far from perfect. For example, he called for international standards for the use of force but also said a country has the unilateral right to defend herself.

But then, I am glad that he has decided to adopt the Bush Doctrine.

I was referring to the vitriol and extremely exaggerated unfounded attack (when there was no argument?), not your statement regarding the speech.

Saying "It was a well-argued and intellectually rigorous speech." is hardly worship of Obama (Sermon on the Mount? Really? You can do so much better...). You're being silly. If you would get your dander up on important issues and not create issues that don't exist so you have something to harumph about, you might be taken a little more seriously. Seriously, choose the friggin' hill - you don't have to die on all of them (this is the problem with the entire Republican party right now...).

Israelis using white phosphorus on civilian areas? NOT ok.
Israelis bombing locations that they KNEW were UN buildings? NOT ok.

Granted, but even before FF entered the discussion it was still droll. I don't really expect much new discussion on the matter... it's been debated ad nauseum already. You'd probably get the same effect by simply rereading the old thread(s) .

I am constantly amazed at how paranoid and afraid the left is in this country. It is no wonder they have to have the government to protect them. I guess it is only natural. Without the government taking care of liberals, they would probably end up extinct.

Not horrifying, existentially horrifying.

I'm not afraid. I don't think that the unsavory elements of the right are going to undermine and subversively destroy the country. I think my personal health is totally safe. I think we need to curtail some of the powers of government, especially the federal government, and I worry about that a lot more than I worry about the small minority of "Right-Wing Nutjobs"


But I find it very depressing on a certain level that this country has gotten to the point where Glen Beck serves as a guide for political discourse, and the amount of political, social, and economic literacy (on both sides) is so low.


This is more a Kurtz dying kind of horror than a I'mabuysomegunsandammobecasuetherightwinglooniesar egoingtokillme kind of horror (which I have to admit some people on the left do indeed engage in).

Oh well. So much for any minor notions of positivism I had.
