New to fencing - Greetings everybody

    Hello!
I am moving to NYC within the next few months and planning to start fencing lessons.
I am 33 years old, never fenced before, but hopeful it will be an interesting new sport to take up on. I am a sailor, and I play tennis.
I have been advised by a friend to contact EUF and train with Jed Dupree, problem is I have been told that I will be doing the introductory class with an assistant coach.
My question is, is it wrong to assume that due to my age, the main coaches of the club will not deal with me? Perhaps they are paying more attention to the juniors ?
I am a hard worker, and I intend to put equal amount of determination and work into fencing.
Do you think it would be wrong for me to attend the introductory class in a couple of weeks time, and then start again in 3 months when I move to NYC?
I am planning to have a discussion and decide whether perhaps it would be more efficient to start the intro class as soon as I move and postpone it for the time being.
What I definitely would not prefer, is to end up training with everyone else but the coach I initially wanted to train with. Please do not get me wrong, but if I didnt have the recommendation for J.D. in the first place, I would shop around before making up my mind, which I do not intend of doing, as so far I hear only great things about Empire United.
Your feedback and suggestions would be much appreciated! wishing everyone a great week!

It is wrong to assume that main coaches of the club will not deal with you due to your age. ( At least I hope this is the case.) There are a number of "basics" that must be learned before you would need to work with a higher level coach. It will take time. It sounds like it is just an efficient way to use the club recourses.

When to start is up to you. Sounds fine either way to me.

Your best bet is to talk to the coach or assistant coach. Then there will be no question.
Anything worth doing is worth doing to obsession.
