    That's Crazy!!!

Here's an interesting one. I attack under the guard. My opponent parrys to the outside low line. His bell guard catches the tip of my weapon and we are locked for a moment. I test my weapon after the incident and my weapon no longer works. We hook my weapon into a test box and the green light stays on. When we depress the button, the red light goes off. Upon inspection with a device which I do not know the name of, we find that one of the two wires has bled over. I am guessing a re-wire, any ideas?

Bled over? Could you explain that?

Sounds like his bellguard caught a wire that wan't seated in the blade properly (or was popping out) and scrapped enough insulation to make it ground out.

It sounds to me that perhaps the insulation was torn from the wires. It would only take a small removal of insulation from both wires to make contact. If this is the case and is probably a small spot near the tip. I think that a rewire is the ticket.

What I mean by a bleed over is that when you take a meter to the wires, you get a read out for a each wire on both plugs. To my understanding, each wire should correspond to only one plug.

    Hey D'

Since you are in the armory section maybe we can use this to get some common terms in. 'Round hya when we have the two epee wires getting bashed up and bare, and then they touch each other we call that a SHORT in the wires-- symptomatically that means when you have the epee plugged in and the tip NOT depressed the hit light keeps going off. If on the other foot you have some bashed up wires and one or both wires touches the blade ,we call this GROUNDING because no matter how much you depress the damn tip it will not give you a hit light. ( as because the epee thinks it is hitting the opponents bell is why). Keep fencing epee. Epee is fun. Stay away from fencing foil. One doesn't really get a grasp on that game until you are fencing like a strong C......

Thanks for the jargon. I try to avoid workin on weapons so I will rarely use such words anyway.

Oh don't worry, I have no problem staying away from foil I tend to stick with what I am good (or at least competent) at.
