Array sabre music I recently started going to a new fencing club for extra sabre lessons and they fence to music. Could anyone give me any ideas for what might be on a good sabre fencing play list. "Speak softly and carry a big sabre" OPA! -

Array Personally, I don't like the idea of fencing to music. If I can hear it I am likely to be distracted or settle into a rhythm, and if I can't, what's the point of playing it in the first place?
That said, at our club some people like to play Queen, or Cansei de Ser Sexy. Basically, noisy stuff.

Array I recommend earplugs. Fencing to music strikes me as a bad idea... Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

We should have a thread on music to listen to while warming up before competitions. -

I was just making up my own list for my iPod! I personally like listening to music while fencing too...but it has to have the right beat. Anything that has a really upbeat tempo gets me going.
Here are some of mine:
1. Jerk It Out, by The Caesars
2. Tik Tok by Kesha?
3. Pump It, by Black Eyed Peas
4. anything by David Guetta -

Array I'm probably just an anomoly, but I generally listen to classical music while warming up. Too much beat (rock or whatever) actually distracts me. There are also times I find myself replaying the music in my head during bouts. Strange enough, those are the bouts I tend to do better in. We had jazz playing at a SoCal tourney years back...kinda nice, actually. -

A bunch of us used to fence in Philly using the same facility where the Philadelphia Orchestra practiced and recorded. You could hear them faintly in the background. I always wondered if it was reciprocal, and it amazed me that they let us near the place on recording days.

Im actually a fan of practicing footwork to brahms hungarian dance no 5. My old partner turned me onto it and i love fencing to it. "Speak softly and carry a big sabre" OPA! -

Array on another note, also fencing to shut me up by mindless self indulgence helps me keep the quick tempo needed for sabre fencing. Im not exactly sure why but it helps motivate me to keep my footwork small and neat. "Speak softly and carry a big sabre" OPA! -
