Sabre in Stockholm does anyone know if there are sabre clubs in Stockholm or in Sweden? I know Sweden is an epeeist country but I've heard there were sabreurs.
Reason I'm asking: I may go to Sweden for my PhD so but I take fencing being one of the factors of deciding where to do my PhD. Flail is my favourite weapon in fencing competition -

Array Well, if you go there will be at least one. Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Array I would contact either PeterGustafsson or Zilverzmurfen on this forum. They are both in Sweden and could help you. Beer, it's whats for dinner! ~ a young snowboarding Canadian The meek don't want it! ~ sticker on a rock band's guitar -
Hi!
Sweden is very much an epee country. However, we have some clubs which have competitive sabre training. They can be found in Örebro (the only sabre-only club in the country), Linköping, Lund, and yes, Stockholm. Some data from the latest Swedish Nationals:
MSI (10 competitors)
1 x, Ängby Fencing Club, Northern Stockholm
2 x, Örebro Fencing, Örebro
3 x, Örebro Fencing, Örebro
3 x, Gothenburg Fencing Club
5 x, Ängby Fencing Club, Northern Stockholm
6 x, Ängby Fencing Club, Northern Stockholm
7 x, Lund University sports club, Lund
8 x, Ängby Fencing Club, Northern Stockholm
I have chosen to delete names here.
A list of former MSI Champions, and their club affiliations, can be found here: http://www.fencing.se/sm-seniorer/sm-sabel-herrar-ind/
MS team champions are here: http://www.fencing.se/sm-seniorer/sm-sabel-herrar-lag/
The numbers in parenthesis after the name of each winner/winning club is the number of contestants, if known.
The contact info for all clubs in the Stockholm area is found here: http://www.fencing.se/stockholm/
As a student, SSIF will be a obvious choice for you.
Oh: the Swedish names for the different weapons are "sabel", "Värja", and "florett". Fencing is "fäktning". I have posted other translations both here, and on rec.sport.fencing, before.
There is also a dedicated sabre blog in Swedish: http://sabelbloggen.sabelsajten.se/#home.
Not much in it at the moment (new site) but its creators could give you better info than I can.
There is some sabre fencing in Uppsala also, so all big University cities have sabre fencing to some degree over here.
Välkommen till Sverige!

Array Hi,
I would recomend that you contact the following clubs:
Föreningen för Fäktkonstens Främjande (FFF)
Pipersgatan 27, 112 28 STOCKHOLM
Tel +46 8-652 75 54 anmalan@fff-faktning.se www.fff-faktning.se
Fencing salle: search Google maps for "Pipersgatan 27, Stockholm"
Ängby FK (ÄFK)
c/o Thomas Åkerberg, Kastargränd 23, 178 36 EKERÖ thomas.fencing@telia.com www.angbyfk.se
Fencing salle: search Google maps for "Bergslagsvägen 60, Stockholm"
Both of these clubs have active sabre fencers.
The Stockholm University student fencing club does not - to my knowledge - have any sabre fencers, but you should get in touch anyhow:
Stockholms Studenters IF, Fäktning (SSIF)
c/o DIF, Box 8158, 104 20 Stockholm
+46 8-664 14 64 info@ssif-faktning.se www.ssif-faktning.se
Fencing salle: search Google maps for "Artemisgatan 9, Stockholm" -

Array Hey, welcome to Sweden!
(I also did a quick search for videos of swedish sabre fencers -- no luck.) -
Hi Black Knight. I'm now based in London but I lived in Stockholm for 6 months a couple of years back. Whilst there I fenced sabre at FFF. There's an ex French International sabreur there called Thierry who coaches both epee and sabre. I had lessons with him whilst I was there and he is an excellent coach. He's taught a group of kids sabre from scratch and from what I hear they are getting quite good now so you may want to check this out. There are also a few older sabreurs at FFF. I've never went to Ängby FK but one of their juniors just competed in the Junior Europeans so that also looks like an option for you. -
Thx fa266, I had a look and i was thinking btw FFF and AFK. Yet I'm not sure if I end up in Sweden since I'm still waiting for the offers of other universities in England and Australia.
But what I'm quite sure is that I might stay in Hongkong for a few months next year. So I would like to know (I know this question is out of the topic here but I hope one can give me some answer) the order of the quality of sabre fencers of the following countries, Australia, England, Sweden and Hongkong. Can someone give me ideas? Flail is my favourite weapon in fencing competition -
