Array Bomb Blasts Rock Soweto Nine bombs exploded in the township of Soweto from midnight and well into the early hours of this morning! So far, one death has been reported. A 51 year old woman sleeping in a shack was killed when debris from the first bomb entered her shack whilst she was sleeping. Her husband was also seriously injured. Her 2 childrenare OK.
It seems that mosques, railway stations and such installations were targeted, rather than people.
This would appear to make it an act of sabotage, rather than terror (cinfirmed by the timing of the attacks).
Soweto was established by the apartheid government as originally a 'temporary' township for black migrant workers working in Johannesburg. It became a centre of the anti-apartheid struggle in the 1960s to 1980s and is still one of the most populous of Johannesburg's major residential areas. The overwhelmingly majority of residents are black people and it is a centre of black South African cultural life.
We are all wondering who is behind this.
So far suspicion is directed at right wing organisations.
The police have recently exposed a number of these organisations who have been stockpiling weapons, explosives and fuel! A number of people are on trial fro treason in connection with these finds!
Waiting for the 2nd foot to drop

That Guy
Array My thoughts are with you today. Seems like every day or so a bomb is going off somewhere. I don't know if these acts are increasing in frequency or if I'm just more aware of them these days.

Quit (no longer with us)
Array okay, this is what i picked up from the people i associate with: if you really want to help soweto, with very few exceptions, diamonds, rubies, and saphires should not be a girls best friend. those people work in mines to dig out this stuff and then they sell it to big wheels elsewhere in the world. diamonds were only supposed to be a token of affection given for engagements, and not everyone wanted a diamond. many girls opted for a little pearl or some other token. we've become a bit greedy and others suffer; by the way I saw a bunch of african buddhists in japan this past trip. they looked absolutely beautful, i could not believe it! they were great. I feel a little sad to be moving, but that's the way it is. I was a stranger in a strange land, and no-one trusted me. -
A cynic's answer Heyta Cyr
Think of this latest occurance as completeing your education. First you learnt how to dodge riots, then how to avoid hijackings and roberries. Now you learn how to escape terror attacks.
All this in addition to public classes in embezzlement, nepotism, cronyism, fraud, and so on. All in all and education one can only get in few and selected places around the world. --------------
...and after the spanking....

Asia is seeing a lot of these similar incidents as well. Worse certain governments are being really wishy washy about dealing with the terrorist issue. The most common refrain being "We have no terrorist in our country." Get real man. Even in Singapore there are active members, we just got lucky that we caught them first b/4 they could do any damage. Feels like the end of the world is near. Everywhere is a mess, these terrorists are everywhere and religion is not the only motivator. In Deum Veritas, In Deum Caritas Similar Threads -
