    Moodle

    Hi,

I have been using Moodle (moodle.org) for quite some time now in teaching environments. It works quite well for designing courses and administer groups. I just thought that it could be a good platform to base a fencing club on. Anybody doing that at the moment?

I greatly support the use of open source for fencing clubs. I've been using joomla to create and manage the Hapoel Kfar-Saba fencing club website.

Not for a fencing club, but the department I work for at the University is using it to help deliver some of their online course materials. Speaking as a user, and an administrator (I'm the department's sysadmin), I'm not quite a fan.

Our club (University recreational sports club) uses a custom website, SMF forum, and Facebook.

One of the colleges where I teach also uses Moodle. I also am not a fan. It works alright, but has the feel of hackery, which for you non-programmers out there, means the parts don't really feel like they operate together properly. For example, you are forced to upload a document multiple times to use it in multiple places.

I have found that Google Groups works far better for fencing communication.

moodle isn't intuitive to use as a whole, especially if you're not using it as a teaching tool that is class-oriented. there are better options if you're trying to run a club.

I am not a fan of Joomla or Drupal - but you really did a nice job with this site!

I'm using moodle for our fencing page. http://stbens.moodledo.co.uk/course/view.php?id=408 It is a good value for money option that compares well with some much more expensive alternatives. I'd be keen to see how you are using your moodle for fencing.
