Pan American Junior/Cadet Championships

For Immediate Release

Pan American Junior/Cadet Championships, Santiago, Chile: Carolyn Wright
(16, Arlington, Va./Virginia Acad. of Fencing) avenged her loss to Brazil's
Elora Ugo Pattaro by deafeating her in the Under-20 Women's Sabre event to
win the gold medal!

Wright competed with 13 other fencers from Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Bolivia,
Ecuador, and Guadaloupe.

Wright lost to Pattaro in the Under-17 competition two days earlier. In the
semi finals, Wright defeated Elizabeth Alba Marroquin of "ESA" 15-8. In the
gold medal bout, Wright clutched victory from the jaws of defeat by a score
of 15-14. At one point in the bout she was down 9-13.

In the Under 20 Men's Epee event, Rob Bralow (19, Philadelphia, Pa./Fenc.
Acad. of Phila.) won the bronze medal; U.S. teammate Jason Stockdale (17,
Lansdowne, Pa./Fenc. Acad. of Phila.) was 5th. Bralow defeated Jose Felix
Dominguez of Argentina, to reach the final four, winning by a hair 15-14. In
the semifinals he lost to Patricio Moreno of Chile 15-12.

There were 22 fencers in the competition from Brazil, Chile, Guadaloupe,
Mexico, Argentina, Columbia, Bolivia, Uruguay, Ecuador, and Peru.
