Gary. This is good news and best of luck tomorrow.
A correction though is necessary as not to lure uninformed and loving parents to take a second mortgage on their home because they want to send their cadet fencers kids to World Cup tournaments.
This is not a World Cup Tournament cadet or otherwise. It is one of the 7 WF tournament in the European Cadet Circuit (#3 of the season). http://www.eurofencing.info/EfcEng/defaultE.htm
This is also a qualification tournament for German WF fencers http://www.fechten.org/fechten/kalen...enflorett.html for the European Cadet World Championship in Athens, March 1-7, 2010, and for the Cadet World Championship in Baku, in April 2010.
This particular event is called:
Cup of the Tauberfranken Savings Bank
28th International Cadet Women's Foil Qualification Tournament
Tauberbischofsheim, October 24-25, 2009
Not all European fencing federations participate in these CC tournaments or designate any of them as qualifying for European or world cadet Championships. Italy does not send officially any fencer to these tournaments but Italian fencers are free to go and register on their own assuming any and all cost and responsibilities (if there are more than 4 fencers the fencers going are responsible to bring along a referee or pay the fine).
Italian Cadet WF fencers competed today in Foggia at their first national event for WF cadet of the season. http://www.federscherma.it/file/35080.pdf
The only cup this weekend in Tauber is offered by the local Savings Bank, prestigious no doubt, but not a world cup.
Best of luck to all US fencers and bring home the Cup (from the Sparkasse)! -

World Cups are run by the FIE, designated cadet events are run by the fencing federation of the country in which they occur. That alone makes for a huge difference, never mind that the intention of World Cups is to draw fencers from all over the world and, until recently, many of the cadet events were closed to foreign fencers.
I second gladius' sentiments - Go USA! -

Array A good day for the USA WF cadets. Congrats to Ms Kiefer for a dominating day and the win! Also a rousing round of applause to Ms Zeiss and Ms McKee for making the top 8 as well. I second gladius' sentiments - Go USA! Me thinks that we foil fencers are less persnickety about stuff like strip boundaries, weapons, names of our competitions, etc... of course, there is always right of way -
Winner gets 910 Group II points. -
Wow, that's so cool that Iris gets to be their coach too! "Life is like a wheel, where everyone steals, but when we rise, it's like Strawberry Fields." -

Cadet World Cup GO USA!
Cadet World Cup GO USA! Can you point me in the direction of the FIE Cadet World Rankings then? -

Array They're not even designed for national teams - they're fundamentally a club competition.
Only a few countries enter as 'national teams'. -
Or as I mentioned in this thread: New National Calendar for Non-Vet Fencers
Instead of cadet designated events maybe these events should be called,
"Local European cadet events where the USFA awards more points than US domestic national events." -

that way, the kids walk away feeling like they fenced internationally in a world cup to their school friends and, more importantly, school administrators. -

Really, it is about the only thing we can call them. And why not? It's not like we're abusing a trademark... Similar Threads -
